Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Daniel de de Burgos Bengoechea ("DDDBB") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.
DDDBB : I am not an experienced designer since it is my first project, I have become a designer accidentally. My product really is an invention with an attractive and different design
DDDBB : When I was in a low mood for personal reasons, design helped me stay positive and focus on my project.
DDDBB : It came up completely unexpectedly.
DDDBB : I like those designs that allow people to improve their health.
DDDBB : Even though they fail, they should never stop trying. Perseverance and consistency make the difference.
DDDBB : For me, a great designer is someone who makes difficult things easy, with existing elements they are able to create something without resorting to new technologies.
DDDBB : When a design combines functionality, ergonomics and aesthetics we can consider it to be a good design.
DDDBB : A good design makes everyday activities easier.
DDDBB : I am passionate about the fitness world. The Italian brand technogym has an aesthetic that I like.
DDDBB : The dream project is always the next one
DDDBB : One's own originality, one should never abandon one's personal essence.
DDDBB : A great inspiration for me has been the Argentine car builder based in Italy, Horacio Pagani.I was fascinated by his personal story.
DDDBB : I don't have a favorite designer, I try to give my personal touch to the ideas I like. I have always liked the sobriety and elegance of Italian fashion designers like Armani and Versace.
DDDBB : I only have one design. Genius for me lies in making the difficult easy. My design manages to compact the characteristics of countless devices into one accompanied by an attractive aesthetic.
DDDBB : I believe that to be a good designer you have to be creative, persevering, restless and have good self-esteem.
DDDBB : I am not a typical designer since I work as a Physical Education teacher. I could say that I am an atypical designer with a loose verse.
DDDBB : Design is transforming a dream into an illusion and later into an idea, to give it shape with a design.
DDDBB : I didn't have any special support, I let myself be guided by my intuition. I had family moral support but when everything was very evolved.
DDDBB : Nobody, it emerged in a natural way. It was a surprise for my whole family.
DDDBB : My biggest obstacle has probably been inexperience but I have managed to overcome it thanks to passion and perseverance.
DDDBB : As a unique, multifunctional and aesthetic product for everyone. Not in vain is it called "the Swiss army knife of sports."
DDDBB : I have different ideas but I need to organize them. I have no idea what the future holds for me.
DDDBB : Facilitate and improve people's lives.
DDDBB : A quality design.
DDDBB : Solving problems and facilitating and improving people's lives.
DDDBB : I am enthusiastic about the areas of fitness, health and home or outdoor furniture.
DDDBB : I have only made one.
DDDBB : I would like the talent and ingenuity of human beings to predominate over technology.
DDDBB : I think that technology is invading design, I liked the design of yesteryear better. When someone with 3 wood is able to see a chair it is something fascinating.
DDDBB : My project from when I started the sketches to the realization of the prototype will have lasted 10 months.
DDDBB : The first thing is to write down the idea so that I don't forget. Afterwards, I search and find out if anything has been found and finally I look for the perfect combination of shapes and materials.
DDDBB : Dream, then design
DDDBB : They are two interconnected aspects.
DDDBB : Minimum, I like the traditional design better. The magic is in doing something great with few resources
DDDBB : My designs start with a pencil and a piece of paper, I don't use software.
DDDBB : Without a doubt, they are important aspects that condition a design for better or worse, which is why it is important to find a balance of the 3 aspects.
DDDBB : What benefits does your design provide?
DDDBB : I compare it with something that already exists and see if the improvement is notable and from there I evaluate the excellence of the design.
DDDBB : I design individually, my training is self-taught, it must be a natural talent. I haven't had any co-design experience yet.
DDDBB : I have carried out the entire process individually, I have not had help from other people.
DDDBB : The book that has inspired me the most is not directly related to design, it is more related to personal improvement and is titled "Become unstoppable" (Rubén González)
DDDBB : I have not carried out any design studies, I consider that it has been a hidden talent that I have now just found
DDDBB : I would like to be able to talk to fitness companies like Technogym and Nohrd since I consider their designs to be sophisticated and elegant, having aesthetic similarities with my design. Another company I would like to talk to is Freeletics since I believe that my product would be the perfect device for developing your exercises.
DDDBB : I do not consider myself famous, however, I have appeared in magazines and television. One must always remember where one comes from.
DDDBB : My favorite color is yellow since I consider it to be the brightest. My favorite place, my city, Bilbao. My favorite food is cod pil-pil. My favorite season is spring. My favorite brand Armani.
DDDBB : The beginnings of my project were very humble. The design began with a pencil and a piece of paper and later I did the testing with cardboard that I cut out to adjust the measurements of the device and make sure that the ergonomics of the product were correct.
DDDBB : That I have managed to synthesize the functionalities of many devices into one using design as the axis, achieving a multifunctional, aesthetic and simple product.
DDDBB : No, it didn't even cross my mind. I have always had ideas but I never executed them because I thought that everyone would have those ideas, that is, possibly I was not able to see my talent.
DDDBB : I believe that the axis of everything should be the emotions, values and integrity of the human being. Currently, confrontation is sought more than harmony between human beings.
DDDBB : I was quite talented in football but probably due to lack of perseverance and perseverance and not believing in myself, I didn't amount to anything. That is why my advice is to always believe in themselves since they will already have people within their close circle who will not believe in them. What makes the difference is not talent but perseverance, you never have to give up.
