Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Lara Wilkin ("LW") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

LW : You can create your world and induce to rethink.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

LW : Predestined and wanted.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

LW : Think different and do not sell yourself below value!

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

LW : Good designers know to use the tools, great designers think different!

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

LW : A good design influences positively.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

LW : Good design has quality and not just for a short time.

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

LW : Science, social and environmental campaigns.

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

LW : Patience, self-criticism and conviction.

DL: What is your greatest design, which aspects of that design makes you think it is great?

LW : Life is the greatest design process. We react, create, are shaped and shape others. We learn with every moment, we are faced with problems and solve them. We create our lives, our environment, our relationships.

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

LW : Be individual!

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

LW : I think I hand become a science woman.

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

LW : Design make sense and enriched.

DL: Who helped you to reach these heights, who was your biggest supporter?

LW : My Mom, my Granny and my lovely family, my friends and all the good souls they always supported me! My life is rich and blessed because I have people like you!

DL: What helped you to become a great designer?

LW : Discipline & love!

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

LW : With conviction!

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

LW : To move something in the world for positive.

DL: How does design help create a better society?

LW : Design can educate and encourage thinking.

DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?

LW : Design has to get its value again!

DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?

LW : It take the time it needs!

DL: What is your life motto as a designer?

LW : Think different!

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

LW : Technology is a tool, but it should never play the most important role.

DL: Who is your ideal design partner? Do you believe in co-design?

LW : Ideal partners complement each other!

DL: How do you feel about all the awards and recognition you had, is it hard to be famous?

LW : I am grateful and blessed.

DL: What makes your day great as a designer, how do you motivate yourself?

LW : The sun is always shining above the clouds
