LEGENDARY INTERVIEW

Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer JATO Design International Ltd ("JDIL") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

JDIL : If I am not a designer, I will become a teacher and devote more energy to the design education, so as to cultivate first-class international design talents for China. At present, the most famous design institutes are all abroad. To some extent, the design education in China is restricted by the system, traditional ideas, and teachers' own vision and insights. Therefore, a large number of design forces are urgently needed in this industry to devote themselves to personnel training and lay the foundation for the long-term development of the industry.

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

JDIL : My ultimate goal is to create a better city and a better life for people through design. At the same time, through the combination of function, technology and art, we can achieve the best effect of the project, create greater value for the owners and bring greater returns.

DL: What are you currently working on that you are especially excited about?

JDIL : At present, the impact of science and technology on society is more and more profound. For the design industry, I think it is also necessary to keep pace with the times and use more advanced means and technology to improve the efficiency and creativity of the industry. JATO and J&A are the first pure design company to enter the A-share market in China. In addition to technology, we also hope to use the power of capital to insert wings for creativity with capital and technology.

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

JDIL : Technology plays an important auxiliary role in design, helping us to complete the design with higher efficiency and better quality. For example, BIM technology is used to complete a very difficult design project. VR technology can observe the effect of the project from the perspective of simulation. It has a very wide range of uses in the design of the project, the report of the project and the construction process.

DL: What do you think about future; what do you see will happen in thousand years from now?

JDIL : I think the future is full of infinite possibilities. The world is changing all the time, and the speed of change is accelerating. So what is the future? I don't think anyone can give a definite answer. But there are also some fixed things, such as people's love for beauty and art, and their yearning for a better life.
