LEGENDARY INTERVIEW

Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Royole Corporation ("RC") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

RC : I learned industrial design from Hunan University of Technology 9 years ago.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

RC : To become a designer like Leonardo da Vinci always been my goal, and that’s why I named myself “Vinci”.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

RC : I choose to be a designer.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

RC : I design electric consumer products a lot. I like different project. Any non-duplicated work is ok for me.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

RC : I am not a design Legend yet, but I dream to be the person like Leonardo da Vinci.

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

RC : Great designer never satisfied with what he has done.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

RC : From following items judge the design: 1. whether solve the problem in an new way;2. whether has a reasonable usage; 3. Whether has human being design ;4. whether iconic design.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

RC : Good design makes people has better relationship with others and society.

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

RC : Probably design for kids.

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

RC : No,Just believe I can. I am still searching for the way of success on design.

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

RC : Leonardo da Vinci.

DL: What are your favorite designs by other designers, why do you like them?

RC : My favorite design is Yoshino Nursery School and Kindergarten design by Tezuka Architects. Check it out: Endless ellipse roof with soft rubber, half open-ended class room and underfloor heating system, I think each of function details thinking makes children enjoyable and comfortable. That’s why I like it.

DL: What is your greatest design, which aspects of that design makes you think it is great?

RC : Nop. I would say it’s the next one.

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

RC : If so, I will concern about social-culture and learn philosophy.

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

RC : Never think about that. It’s very difficult to answer Hypothesis question.

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

RC : Design is the process of produce order from chaos. design is the tools and method of make the bridge between society, tech and people. For me, design is not a job but the way of how I existence.

DL: Who helped you to reach these heights, who was your biggest supporter?

RC : I don’t think how great of me ,seems like “the written interview “Inspired me that I have to move faster and smarter to approach my goal.

DL: What helped you to become a great designer?

RC : I still need growth on design. Design is the ability of integration.

DL: What were the obstacles you faced before becoming a design master?

RC : I am not a design master yet.

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

RC : Show the real color without any deco element.

DL: What’s your next design project, what should we expect from you in future?

RC : Have no Idea at the moment.

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

RC : To become a designer like Leonardo da Vinci always been my goal.

DL: What people expect from an esteemed designer such as yourself?

RC : I will try to becoming an esteemed designer at next thirty years.

DL: How does design help create a better society?

RC : I only agree green design and sustainable design which probably helps to create a better society. Most of designs and technologies are destroying our society right now.

DL: What are you currently working on that you are especially excited about?

RC : Not really. I will try to working on some good stuff for kids for next few years .

DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?

RC : New generation productivity tools such as HoloLens in real-world scenarios (Mixed -hybrid reality technology).

DL: Where do you think the design field is headed next?

RC : How to keep emotion and mood healthy.

DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?

RC : Depends on what kind of project you are working on; it may take me over 5 months to lock down a cell-phone ID. But I probably only need 1 week to develop a Bluetooth speaker industrial design. It might me 2 weeks to finalize it.

DL: When you have a new design project, where do you start?

RC : Start with understanding of the nature and root of the requirement.

DL: What is your life motto as a designer?

RC : “All objectivity is subjective and all opinions are biased.” quotes from Hans-Georg Gadamer.

DL: Do you think design sets the trends or trends set the designs?

RC : They influence each other.

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

RC : Design is the ability of integration. Technology is a part of design element.

DL: What kind of design software and equipment do you use in your work?

RC : Pro-E, Rhino, Photoshop, Illustrator, Key shot.

DL: What is the role of the color, materials and ambient in design?

RC : Basic element of design.

DL: What do you wish people to ask about your design?

RC : I hope people asked me where I can buy it.

DL: When you see a new great design or product what comes into your mind?

RC : Appreciate and enjoy.

DL: Who is your ideal design partner? Do you believe in co-design?

RC : I do believe in co-design, but it’s hard to find the right person to work with.

DL: Which books you read had the most effect on your design?

RC : If so, then “ A History of Western Philosophy” I-Ching, I’m still reading many other books.

DL: How did you develop your skills as a master designer?

RC : Thinking like a master designer.

DL: Irrelative of time and space, who you would want to meet, talk and discuss with?

RC : Leonardo da Vinci, Plato, Socrates, Aristotle, Lao-tzu and Fuxi.

DL: How do you feel about all the awards and recognition you had, is it hard to be famous?

RC : Very peacefully.

DL: What is your favorite color, place, food, season, thing and brand?

RC : Black white and Blue, Space or dominant position, I do like Italian pizza a lot, thin and Crispy. I like winter. I like Feeling of weightlessness.

DL: When you were a little child, was it obvious that you would become a great designer?

RC : That is a tough question, I can only tell that I keep searching and thinking do not make myself behind of the time, and at the same time, I keep to looking back the history of the design and philosophy, try to understand the relationship of the social with human being and myself how exist. i am still growing up as a designer.

DL: What do you think about future; what do you see will happen in thousand years from now?

RC : No, when I was a child, I always dreamed myself Suspended in the air and fly free.
