Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Sadik Patel ("SP") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.
DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?
SP : I am in design field since 2001. I use Photoshop, 3ds Max softwares
DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?
SP : New inventions motivates me more, Art & designing is my hobby
DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?
SP : To turn my hobby into profession I choose to become a designer, It s my own choice and I am well enjoying it.
DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?
SP : I design products which we are using in day to day life it can be household item or industrial product designs, it can be electric device or non electric products
DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?
SP : I would suggest them to keep trying new things, always think about new concepts, try to add new features in existing products or invent new products.
DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?
SP : Good designs be like making jewelry from pearls and great design be like diving in to sea and find the pearls oyster form the bottom of the sea
DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?
SP : Any design which carry fresh idea and features makes it good design
DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?
SP : Good design always has its own value and importance. Good design brings new business and jobs in the country therefore to keep the economy running, we should invest in good design
DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?
SP : I would like to design smartphones for the phone companies
DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?
SP : My dream project is to make big Missiles. We know the speed and range of the missiles. It can reach any part of the world within no time. We use missiles to take the human lives I would like to make missile which will carry Drinking water, basic foods like bread and butter, tents, clothes, blankets to help the human beings during natural calamities like floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis. Missile can be made from special light fiber material with soft outer surfaces, It can release the item from the air which are packed in special air bubble packaging to make sure no one injures. Even further more missile would carry Flowers, Sweets, Balloons as a token of love to the neighbor countries on their National days and festivals to maintain the relationship if they have any disputes Lets give the lives instead take the lives
DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?
SP : Always believe in giving to nature and do not look for rewards
DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?
SP : The best way to improve designing skill is to 'do it when you feel it'. Do not wait for special days and time. I always make notes as soon as I realize new concepts and designs
DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?
SP : I even can not imagine it
DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?
SP : Design represents the designer, his feelings and their dedications. Design is mode to bring relief and help to the society
DL: What helped you to become a great designer?
SP : I always believe in giving nature and hard work
DL: What were the obstacles you faced before becoming a design master?
SP : In the beginning people did not appreciate new designs. I been told not to continue the new projects.
DL: What’s your next design project, what should we expect from you in future?
SP : I have designed innovative mobile cover with the privacy features, It will help to maintain privacy in crowded places like in public transports, inside or outside the home, office.
DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?
SP : My goal as s designer is to design a products to help the society, specially for the disabled people
DL: What people expect from an esteemed designer such as yourself?
SP : People have many expectations from the designers as good design could change the life styles, bring comfort for them, new products so can produce more jobs and overall growth of nations depends on new inventions
DL: How does design help create a better society?
SP : New design and product serves the society in various ways such as constructions, transport facilities, communication systems and many more, it can produce more jobs and overall growth of nations depends on new inventions
DL: What are you currently working on that you are especially excited about?
SP : At present I am working on smart phone batteries,
DL: Which design projects gave you the most satisfaction, why?
SP : My design called Qemfor, its very special for me because of its concept and design
DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?
SP : Design industry should notice and show interests in designs from new comers, youngsters, individuals and from freelancers as they need more help and support then the established designers
DL: Where do you think the design field is headed next?
SP : Design field is growing rapidly due to the massive worldwide market competitions. New websites, designing competitions like 'A Competition' is providing big platforms to the designers to prove their work
DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?
SP : Depending on nature of design, it can be couple of hours to couple of weeks
DL: When you have a new design project, where do you start?
SP : I have few projects and will start it very soon in United Kingdom
DL: What is your life motto as a designer?
SP : I wish I could bring joy in everyone life with my art and design
DL: Do you think design sets the trends or trends set the designs?
SP : Good design always sets the trends
DL: What is the role of technology when you design?
SP : I use technology for gathering the informations
DL: What kind of design software and equipment do you use in your work?
SP : I am using 3ds Max and Photoshop to finalize my designs
DL: What is the role of the color, materials and ambient in design?
SP : Design is the combination of Colours, materials. They are like adding sounds in design so can design communicate by it self
DL: What do you wish people to ask about your design?
SP : I will be happy if people ask me about the concept of design
DL: When you see a new great design or product what comes into your mind?
SP : Whenever I see great design or product then first of all I appreciate concept and motto of the design.
DL: Who is your ideal design partner? Do you believe in co-design?
SP : At present I am working individually and I will be happy to work with other designers
DL: Which people you interacted had the most influence on your design?
SP : Aged and disabled peoples had the most influence on my designs
DL: Which books you read had the most effect on your design?
SP : A Design Year Books. Future technology, GCG. Gizmo, Stuff, T3, Tech Reader, Wired and many more
DL: How do you feel about all the awards and recognition you had, is it hard to be famous?
SP : It feels very humble when I achieve my goals, It is very hard to be famous but it also has satisafaction
DL: What is your favorite color, place, food, season, thing and brand?
SP : I like White colour the most, I like to be at home, I prefer Green vegetables, my favorite season is monsoon, I like vintage and antique items, old black and white movies, I like new dresses which are made in poor countries to support them
DL: Please tell us a little memoir, a funny thing you had experienced as a designer?
SP : When I ask opinion on one of my innovative design. my nephew said that he already watched this design in cartoon series
DL: What makes your day great as a designer, how do you motivate yourself?
SP : Even the smaller improvement or change in design makes my day great, I observe things around me for motivation
DL: When you were a little child, was it obvious that you would become a great designer?
SP : I was very good in drawing and crafting in my childhood, I got few awards in my school days for the art activities
DL: What do you think about future; what do you see will happen in thousand years from now?
SP : Science and technologies are made to improve the life of society and natures. If I am not wrong all countries are rising their defence budget every year so science and technology will be use to take life of people any destroy the nature
DL: Please tell us anything you wish your fans to know about you, your design and anything else?
