LEGENDARY INTERVIEW

Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Mitra Gholami ("MG") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

MG : I have a bachelor degree in an interior architecture from Dubai UAE and I received my master degree from San Francisco, CA.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

MG : When I used to go out and see places that had design problems I automatically would redesign them in my head and wish I could do that in real life. That was my motivation to become an interior designer.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

MG : I always wanted to be a designer.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

MG : I design hospitality projects such as lounges, nightclubs, and bars, as well as commercial projects such as office spaces and coworking spaces. I would like to design more hotel projects.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

MG : They should always follow their passion and work hard for it.

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

MG : A good designer design for himself and the client and the great designer designs for everyone.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

MG : when every aspect of the design is taking care of such as lighting, material, color and functionality I can call that design a goo design.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

MG : A well design space has a direct effect on the behavior of the users. When there are time and money spent on the design there will be more customers and clients involved.

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

MG : I would design the most luxurious boutique hotel if I get a chance.

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

MG : My dream project would be a hotel.

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

MG : my patience is my secret recipe.

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

MG : Frank Lloyd Wright and Renzo piano.

DL: What are your favorite designs by other designers, why do you like them?

MG : I love Frank Lloyd Wright falling water project because he brought the exterior to the interior and the architecture is very unique.

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

MG : I Always look for inspiration and design trends in the field and then I come up with my own design.

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

MG : I would be a dentist.

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

MG : design is creating something useful and beautiful for people.

DL: Who helped you to reach these heights, who was your biggest supporter?

MG : My parents were always my big supporters.

DL: What helped you to become a great designer?

MG : my goal and my passion.

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

MG : They should always respect heir work and present it the best way possible with pride. Only, in that case, other people will respect their work aswell.

DL: What’s your next design project, what should we expect from you in future?

MG : A lounge and an apartment complex is my next project to showcase.

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

MG : I want to be the next Frank Lloyd Wright and bring something unique to the world of design.

DL: What people expect from an esteemed designer such as yourself?

MG : All my clients always expect the best they can get from me and I always tend to give my best to them.

DL: How does design help create a better society?

MG : A good design influences people's behavior and it will affect their mood and character as well.

DL: What are you currently working on that you are especially excited about?

MG : I am working on a lounge project that will be over soon and I am very excited for that project.

DL: Which design projects gave you the most satisfaction, why?

MG : Temple nightclub project gave me the most satisfaction because the owner and his clients are very happy with the outcome and see them all happy makes me happy.

DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?

MG : being able to get eco-friendly material that is produced in less time will be very useful.

DL: Where do you think the design field is headed next?

MG : Design and technology are going forward hand in hand.

DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?

MG : it depends on the project but usually between 3 weeks to 3-4 months.

DL: When you have a new design project, where do you start?

MG : I start with asking questions from my clients and gather design concepts.

DL: What is your life motto as a designer?

MG : Always work hard for your passion and always depend on yourself and trust your work

DL: Do you think design sets the trends or trends set the designs?

MG : always design sets the trends.

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

MG : I always use technology when I design for my clients.

DL: What kind of design software and equipment do you use in your work?

MG : I use my laptop and the software such as 3D studio max, Revit and IN design.

DL: What is the role of the color, materials and ambient in design?

MG : They are all related in order to submit a good design they should all be taking care of.

DL: What do you wish people to ask about your design?

MG : I wish they would ask how did you come up wth the concept?

DL: When you see a new great design or product what comes into your mind?

MG : that how can I be inspired by it and come up with my own version of it.

DL: Who is your ideal design partner? Do you believe in co-design?

MG : I do believe in a co-design as long as we both share the same passion and goal.

DL: Which people you interacted had the most influence on your design?

MG : my clients always have the most influence on my design all the time because after all I always design for them.

DL: Which books you read had the most effect on your design?

MG : I always look at architectural digest magazine which they always inspire me.

DL: How did you develop your skills as a master designer?

MG : I aways look for new technology and design trends for my work.

DL: Irrelative of time and space, who you would want to meet, talk and discuss with?

MG : I want to meet Frank Lloyd wright, Micheal Angelo, and Leonardo da Vinci because they always amaze me with their work.

DL: How do you feel about all the awards and recognition you had, is it hard to be famous?

MG : I feel proud and as long as you believe in yourself and your work it is not hard to get recognition.

DL: What is your favorite color, place, food, season, thing and brand?

MG : my favorite color is white and yellow, my favorite place is nature, my favorite food is a healthy food, spring is my favorite season and Chanel and Carolina Herrera are my favorite brands.

DL: What makes your day great as a designer, how do you motivate yourself?

MG : when I look at my accomplishments and realize I do what I am passionate about it makes me motivated.

DL: When you were a little child, was it obvious that you would become a great designer?

MG : Yes, I always knew that I like art and design.

DL: What do you think about future; what do you see will happen in thousand years from now?

MG : Thousand years is a long time but I know in near future I will expand my firm and maybe the name and my legacy will remain in thousand years.

DL: Please tell us anything you wish your fans to know about you, your design and anything else?

MG : Always trust yourself and work hard for what you dream about.
