Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Zooco Estudio ("ZE") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

ZE : Architect (ETSAM) in Madrid. We received an education where we got the enough capability to give or look for answers to any issue we have.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

ZE : Achieve solutions for necesities.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

ZE : I choose it.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

ZE : Any design whenever we are able to develop a complete idea.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

ZE : Try to do it.

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

ZE : There is no good or bad designers, the very design is what it is great or not and decided if the designer has done a good job.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

ZE : When a design has funtion and aesthetic in its maximun expression.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

ZE : A gret design will make lifes easier and better.

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

ZE : A museum or a jail

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

ZE : To be fathful in what I believe.

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

ZE : Great architects.

DL: What are your favorite designs by other designers, why do you like them?

ZE : 'Torres Blancas' in Madrid, Ronchamp of Le Coubusier and Thermal Baths of Peter Zumthor.

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

ZE : Study and work in great projects.

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

ZE : Any other creative work

DL: What were the obstacles you faced before becoming a design master?

ZE : There is never enough time, enough budget and sometimes the client could be an obstacle.

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

ZE : There is no only one way, there are a lot.

DL: What’s your next design project, what should we expect from you in future?

ZE : A single-family house in Torrelodones.

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

ZE : The Arts Center of Verín

DL: What people expect from an esteemed designer such as yourself?

ZE : They except the best solution for a necesity without forgetting that this solution has to be attractive.

DL: How does design help create a better society?

ZE : Because it is the solution of many problems, issues and makes our lifes easier.

DL: What are you currently working on that you are especially excited about?

ZE : Every project has the same process and all of them are exciting.

DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?

ZE : It depends on many facts such as the size, the client, the budget...

DL: When you have a new design project, where do you start?

ZE : Most of the times, working in the studio, but sometimes the best ideas occurs in someplace out of the context.

DL: What is your life motto as a designer?

ZE : Funtion, aesthetic and timelessness

DL: Do you think design sets the trends or trends set the designs?

ZE : I do not believe in trends, a great design must not follow them beacuse it has to last in time.

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

ZE : Technology helps design and makes the creative process easier.

DL: What kind of design software and equipment do you use in your work?

ZE : Drawings, 3d models..

DL: What is the role of the color, materials and ambient in design?

ZE : It is a very important part in the design but not the main one.

DL: When you see a new great design or product what comes into your mind?

ZE : I try to analyse it and learn from it.

DL: Who is your ideal design partner? Do you believe in co-design?

ZE : Architects

DL: Which people you interacted had the most influence on your design?

ZE : Our team.

DL: How did you develop your skills as a master designer?

ZE : Building our projects. Making real what it is in my mind.

DL: What makes your day great as a designer, how do you motivate yourself?

ZE : I feel motivated when I realised that the idea of the design has sense and it is going to be a fact.

DL: What do you think about future; what do you see will happen in thousand years from now?

ZE : Who knows that?
