Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer vittawat archanainant ("VA") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

VA : Bangkok-based multidisciplinary design, majoring in product and lighting, exploring sound, visualization, 3D art, graphic design, interior design, and more. Graduated from KMUTT majoring in Industrial design in Bangkok.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

VA : Creating new things drives my excitement and reason to move on, and I accumulate energy when exploring or finding a theory to prove something better.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

VA : experience and environment taught me to choose to become a designer.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

VA : product that can elevate people-mindedness and prosperity

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

VA : Find your own pace and way to play around and just don't give up

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

VA : dedication and detailed

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

VA : design that can make a better world, a helpful design, a design that drives something better in terms of process, efficiency, or bringing questions to the existing.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

VA : good design makes this world feel worth living.

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

VA : a process or system that makes a better living

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

VA : an automation system to explore an object form

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

VA : obsession

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

VA : Sori Yanagi, Shiro Kuramata, Michael Anastassiades, Achille Castiglioni, Tadao Undo

DL: What are your favorite designs by other designers, why do you like them?

DL: What is your greatest design, which aspects of that design makes you think it is great?

VA : I don't think there is the greatest design since people's minds always grow up and change, the newest is always better, depending on the perspective of a judgment

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

VA : keep exploring and don't be afraid of critics

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

VA : design a path to become a designer

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

VA : creating something for a better reason than the existing

DL: Who helped you to reach these heights, who was your biggest supporter?

VA : All of my surrounding people.

DL: What helped you to become a great designer?

VA : Other people's work, case studies, and experiment

DL: What were the obstacles you faced before becoming a design master?

VA : attitude, the way you look at the world

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

VA : start with a conflict

DL: What’s your next design project, what should we expect from you in future?

VA : a new interpretation of lighting or decorative lamp

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

VA : create something that last long and stay together with a living culture

DL: What people expect from an esteemed designer such as yourself?

VA : to make something better not only the appearance but also the aesthetic

DL: How does design help create a better society?

VA : injecting creative solutions with a good mindset logical reason empathy

DL: What are you currently working on that you are especially excited about?

VA : exploring a traditional gold gliding technique

DL: Which design projects gave you the most satisfaction, why?

VA : Goldrify chandelier, a commercial product that won the award

DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?

VA : a channel for a designer to prove themselves and gain the esteem

DL: Where do you think the design field is headed next?

VA : combining of algorithm and hand-craft

DL: When you have a new design project, where do you start?

VA : start from conflict or desire

DL: What is your life motto as a designer?

VA : always do something better than tomorrow

DL: Do you think design sets the trends or trends set the designs?

VA : both but good design mostly drives trends

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

VA : important support tools to achieve something interesting

DL: What kind of design software and equipment do you use in your work?

VA : Rhinoceros, Keyshot, Grasshopper, 3Dmax, Blender, Solidworks

DL: What is the role of the color, materials and ambient in design?

VA : attraction and fascination

DL: When you see a new great design or product what comes into your mind?

VA : That guy is a genius, Why I can't think of this?

DL: Who is your ideal design partner? Do you believe in co-design?

VA : yes, the one with the same level of sense while conflicting the ideas of each other in a positive way

DL: Which books you read had the most effect on your design?

VA : Original by Adam Grant

DL: How did you develop your skills as a master designer?

VA : experiment and keep doing what you believe is right for you and society.

DL: How do you feel about all the awards and recognition you had, is it hard to be famous?

VA : it was hard but never too hard

DL: What is your favorite color, place, food, season, thing and brand?

VA : Salmon pink, scarlet strong red, off-white, Somewhere with a traditional culture combined with a cleanliness design,

DL: Please tell us a little memoir, a funny thing you had experienced as a designer?

VA : People say thank you for creating something

DL: What makes your day great as a designer, how do you motivate yourself?

VA : a time and environment enhance space to be delicate to something

DL: What do you think about future; what do you see will happen in thousand years from now?

VA : The world will collapse from some point of view but will be a better place after the collapse, Basic factors for living will change

DL: Please tell us anything you wish your fans to know about you, your design and anything else?

VA : I'm a quiet guy and my works are as quiet as mine, The interpretation of design is there, you might need to take some time and think of it, as the design hasn't spoken loudly but quietly telling you something

ANDWHITESTUDIO AIMS TO PUSH THE BOUNDARIES OF A CHANDELIER OR DECORATIVE OBJECT DESIGN, ESPECIALLY IN SOUTH EAST ASIA TO BE WELL-KNOWN YET PRACTICAL IN TERMS OF PHYSICAL PROPORTION BALANCE BETWEEN THE AESTHETIC OF OBJECT AND SPACE, EMOTIONAL RELATION BETWEEN OBJECT AND USER, TO HARMONIZE THE AESTHETICAL SENSE AND DELIVER IN A WAY OF PREFERENCES BASE ON INDIVIDUAL VALUES, OFFERING A CHOICE OF CONSIDERATION TO CHOOSE AND MOTIVATE DELICATE PERSPECTIVE OF PERCEPTION.
