DL: What are you currently working on that you are especially excited about?

SK : I am currently working on an exciting project that involves participating in a stools exhibition. This exhibition allows me to apply textile techniques and my design expertise to create practical yet intriguing exhibits on stools. Stools hold a symbolic meaning in our lives in Hong Kong, representing functionality and adaptability in different situations. For this project, I draw inspiration from the geometric patterns of the past and reimagine the stool with a modern twist. I incorporate heat conductive smart textiles into the design, transforming the traditional stool into a cozy and warm piece of furniture. The warmth provided by the smart textile is not only for winter use but also serves as a form of heat therapy for the hip joint. The hip joint is one of the largest joints in the human body, connecting the feet and torso and playing a crucial role in leg movements and weight-bearing. Hip joint pain can significantly impact daily activities and lower limb functions. By integrating heat therapy into the stool design, I aim to provide relaxation to the tissues surrounding the hip joint, promote blood circulation, and facilitate the supply of nutrients and oxygen to the affected area. This can aid in recovery and provide relief from hip joint pain. I am particularly excited about this project because it combines my passion for design, textiles, and functional solutions. It allows me to explore the intersection of art, design, and well-being, offering a unique and innovative approach to furniture design. I am looking forward to showcasing these exhibits and sharing the benefits of heat therapy in enhancing comfort and improving hip joint health.

DL: Which design projects gave you the most satisfaction, why?

SK : I am especially satisfied with the KnitWarm WarmerBand project. This project holds a special place for me due to its combination of functionality and aesthetic appeal. The initial aspiration behind designing the WarmerBand was to create a versatile and effective solution for providing warmth and targeted therapy to different areas of the body. I wanted to design a product that not only fulfilled its practical purpose but also offered comfort and sustainability. Throughout the design process, we carefully considered the materials used and the overall form of the band. We focused on creating a sleek and slim profile that would allow for easy wearing under clothing without adding bulk or discomfort. The use of recycled polyester from PET bottles not only aligned with our commitment to sustainability but also provided a soft and smooth texture that enhances the wearer's comfort. DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?
