LEGENDARY INTERVIEW

Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Liying Wang ("LW") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

LW : I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Film and TV Fine Arts Design, and that experience inspired my interest in the visual commutation aspect. To refine my skills and knowledge, I enrolled master’s study program at the Academy of Art University. There, I immersed myself in a wide range of courses, including graphic design, typography, illustration, user experience design, and branding. The program provided me with a strong foundation in design principles, technical skills, and critical thinking, which allowed me to develop my unique style and approach.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

LW : My journey into art and design began at a young age when I discovered my love for creativity and visual expression. I found joy in creating something from scratch and using my imagination to bring ideas to life. As I grew older, my passion for art and design continued to flourish, and I realized that I wanted to pursue it as a career. I was fascinated by the power of design to communicate messages, evoke emotions, and solve problems. The ability to blend aesthetics with functionality and make a tangible impact through visual communication greatly inspired me.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

LW : I find great satisfaction in projects that allow me to unleash my creativity and push the boundaries of design. I enjoy designing print materials such as brochures, posters, and packaging. Working with tangible materials and considering their physical attributes adds more creativity to the design process. It allows me to explore different textures, finishes, and printing techniques to create visually striking and memorable designs. I am drawn to projects that allow me to combine my passion for creativity with a focus on solving problems and creating meaningful experiences. I thrive when I can use my design skills to make a positive impact and create designs that resonate with people.
