LEGENDARY INTERVIEW

Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer QIDI DESIGN GROUP ("QDG") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

QDG : I graduated from Hefei University of Technology School of Architecture and Art with a bachelor's degree in art and design

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

QDG : Previous experience of drawing, passion about change of color and light and shadow poetry

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

QDG : In the course of university study to understand the designer as mu future career, get involved in some wonderful project cases, I realised I want to become a designer

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

QDG : At present, more about design of living environment, I will focus on more how landscape which chang human's life in the future

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

QDG : I personally try to explore and observe latest trend of architecure landscape in related to people's daily life

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

QDG : As a good designer,is to solve problems and show good results, in the meanwhile a great designer can lead some cultural reflection and innovation exploration on this basis

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

QDG : Continue to create value and influence after the completion of the project

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

QDG : Many architects and interior design masters,their works are my role model and inspiration Tadao Ando’s light of church inspired me focus on light in the landscape . Kengo Kuma, his design based on the idea of keep the original of the environment,create and integrated to the nature. Yufan Zhu, his landscape design not only reflecting the Chinese tradition and contemporary.

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

QDG : observation and sensitivity

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

QDG : Traveller. travel around the world to visit and feel master's works

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

QDG : To achieve balance and harmony. My own design is about understanding of life and culture in architecture landscape perspective.

DL: Who helped you to reach these heights, who was your biggest supporter?

QDG : I’m grateful that the supportive and confirmation from my company and family.Especially Ke Nie ,he is our design director ,who is always help and encourage me during the work. And I want to thank my family,as regard of their trust and support .

DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?

QDG : Be able to precipitate on design and creativity of the design itself, and access to public

DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?

QDG : Two month,sometimes it takes over one year

DL: When you have a new design project, where do you start?

QDG : Investigate the site background and client needs.

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

QDG : Better expression and presentation, so that the design itself more infectious

DL: What kind of design software and equipment do you use in your work?

QDG : IPAD +trace /Sketchbook/ Procreate/Autocad/Photoshop

DL: What is the role of the color, materials and ambient in design?

QDG : Integrated with each other creates different spatial emotions
