LEGENDARY INTERVIEW

Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Ran Tian ("RT") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

RT : I hope to have the opportunity to try to do some product design, such as what can be used in life. It doesn't need to be much advanced, but I hope it's a unique and practical design that everyone can use.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

RT : Good design is people-oriented, the design of the service object or the user itself. Function decides everything. What you do is based on the user.

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

RT : When I have time, I want to pay more attention to the design of the elderly, such as the space, daily necessities, the design of their real feelings, and the daily life of the elderly. I think the old people in contemporary China really need some care in design and humanities. They don't have much experience in design in recent years, but at this stage, we should pay more attention to them when we have the ability to produce designs that bring some changes to their previous lives.

DL: What are you currently working on that you are especially excited about?

RT : Every project we do now excites me. Every project we do is different. The exciting point is that we like to do different, to face different types of challenges, which is the fun of design.
