Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Chun -Fang Mao ("C-M") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

C-M : Currently is the design director of the design studio, and also serves as a lecturer in the design department of the university

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

C-M : After graduating from high school, I went to many professional design companies, and then developed a strong interest in interior design

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

C-M : At present, most of the cases are residential, and I hope to participate in the hotel's hotel project.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

C-M : Collect relevant design information on a daily basis, and participate in the activities of professional design clubs

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

C-M : Design for self-reflection, continuous improvement of the level and benefit society

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

C-M : Take it from society and give back to society

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

C-M : Aesthetic design that creates added emotional value / because it is worth learning.

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

C-M : Unique home and studio

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

C-M : Same as above

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

C-M : The more common, the more mysterious/curiosity

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

C-M : Japanese architect Oki Sato

DL: What are your favorite designs by other designers, why do you like them?

C-M : Never discussed

DL: What is your greatest design, which aspects of that design makes you think it is great?

C-M : Mansion and residential case, to help complete the owner's dream and achieve recognition

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

C-M : Listen more, learn more, watch more

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

C-M : Complete the dream of traveling around the world

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

C-M : Purposeful creative behavior

DL: Who helped you to reach these heights, who was your biggest supporter?

C-M : The influence on the living environment and the help of good friends since childhood

DL: What were the obstacles you faced before becoming a design master?

C-M : Annoyed by not being able to break through

C-M : A lot of participation in the design professional international competition

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

C-M : I hope to teach what I have learned to the younger generation and give back to society

DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?

C-M : It takes about 3 months to 1 year

C-M : The stress of life translates into the motivation of life

DL: When you were a little child, was it obvious that you would become a great designer?

C-M : Unpredictable
