Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer SONTAYA PANSUPA ("SP") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

SP : I graduated in art and design program from high school and a Bachelor's degree in Creative Arts department, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University. After graduating, I applied for a job as a jewelry designer since 18 years ago, I continue working as a jewelry designer to senior Jewelry designer and Jewelry design and development manager at the end. Before founding my own jewelry design school and Jewelry design studio

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

SP : My family has been a silversmith and Niello Wares since my father's generation. Allowing me to absorb arts and crafts. Since childhood I choose to study art in elementary school. And attended the College of Arts and Crafts at secondary school, followed by the creative arts department at the university. I think that my family, who has always worked in arts and crafts, shaped me to be interested in working in the arts. And design continuously

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

SP : I chose to be a designer since I was young. But the situation forced me to work on designing jewelry Which I finally like it

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

SP : I work in designing jewelry and Gems. I want to design more in accessory design and object.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

SP : For the young designers, I think they are good at design and technology, which I want them to add is the details of the thinking process. Going out to collect details from the actual location In order to get complete details used in the design And most importantly, be patient. New designers tend to want to succeed quickly. But the experience will gradually build Allowing you to be a good designer in the end If you don't give up

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

SP : I think a good designer and a great designer are different in the thinking design process, keeping details in workpiece And the excellent presentation

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

SP : What makes a design work is a good design. that design shows How well to meet the needs of customers. Both function and beauty. Has a distinctive identity And is unique I measure good design results in response to problems. From customer satisfaction But if I looking at beauty in terms that design should Have a distinctive identity And is unique

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

SP : The value of good design must be unique and distinctive. As well as meeting the needs of customers as well Customers who invest in good designs Will get designs that answer both beauty and utility That has a distinctive identity Only for that customer
