LEGENDARY INTERVIEW

Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Nikolay Vladykin ("NV") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

NV : I have a higher education in psychology and pedagogy. Psychology, as you know, is the basis of design. In 2018, I created the Kai Ross studio to design furniture and lamps for various companies, as well as create some limited edition items for individuals and galleries.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

NV : I am fascinated by the process of finding, developing and materializing an idea - it's like magic

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

NV : I don't think I've become one, but I've always been one. Of my own free will :)

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

NV : I think a great designer differs from a good one in his uniqueness and aspiration - he embodies his own ideas no matter what

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

NV : I want to create a bicycle car, but this requires some external support

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

NV : sincerity, attentiveness and aspiration

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

NV : Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance, Philip Stark, Jaime Tresserra

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

NV : Then I would have become a composer, I love music

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

NV : For me, design is a way of knowing, expressing and influencing

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

NV : To make people's living easier, more comfortable and more beautiful

DL: How does design help create a better society?

NV : Design improves the quality of life. Using good subjects makes people happier and more efficient

DL: Do you think design sets the trends or trends set the designs?

NV : Both. These are interrelated processes

DL: When you see a new great design or product what comes into your mind?

NV : Cool! I missed it so much. Now I will create something else and different

DL: Please tell us anything you wish your fans to know about you, your design and anything else?

NV : I really liked one funny definition of a subject designer that I once heard. The subject designer draws poorly, models poorly, and visualizes poorly but he creates beautiful things
