LEGENDARY INTERVIEW

Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Zhu Jianhong ("ZJ") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

ZJ : I studied design four years in South China Agricultural University in China. Then I joined a design company after graduated, one year later i set up Phenom Studio with my classmate.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

ZJ : Because i love making the thing as my own wish since i was child. And i really enjoy the achievement once my work be recognized by other people.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

ZJ : i choose to become a designer as i love design.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

ZJ : Most of my work are interior architecture, i prefer to design house or office to offer better living or working environment for others.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

ZJ : Be patient and keep studying, and don't give up.

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

ZJ : in my opinion, great designer has more creative and personal style, and lead the new trend for one industry.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

ZJ : A good design should be very practical, beauty with low cost, green as well.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

ZJ : Good design should carry out design's idea and match people's expectation with green material. People always hope to have better life with their own personality, so they need to have good design to help them implement their idea.

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

ZJ : i would like to re-design my home for my family if had the time.
