LEGENDARY INTERVIEW

Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer AART. AT Design ("AAD") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

AAD : 4 years architecture study in China, and 5 years in Paris.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

AAD : Design for me has always meant the creation of new ways of looking at things. It's a way of looking at life differently. This is the total motivation for me.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

AAD : We choose to be architect, it's wonderful

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

AAD : Architecture, light design for buildings and landscape. All types of architecture or space always have an interesting story. If one is urged to choose among them, perhaps architecture related to art, history and nature.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

AAD : Try to develop it in maximum depth. For architecture, traveling is essential and allows young designers to understand life and the essentials in architecture.

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

AAD : In my opinion, a great designer can be distinguished from other designers by his special "magic". It could be translated by his sensations or creations, as an artist, regardless of the technique.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

AAD : For me, a good design in architecture is a good understanding of the history of the place itself, the users, and from there, establish its own logic.

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

AAD : Álvaro Siza, Herzog & De Meuron

DL: How does design help create a better society?

AAD : In the life of our society, there are always negative points, complexities... Not only can design improve the quality of life, the bottom line is that it allows people to see "elsewhere", and to watch life differently, and help people overcome difficult moments in life.

DL: Where do you think the design field is headed next?

AAD : - I think that in the near future, an evolution will occur towards an individual design. Thanks to NTIC (new technologies of information and communications), also to globalization, the difference between an expert and an individual is reduced enormously. Every individual now has access to professional information, tools, and knowledge. In addition, the individualization of lifestyle is developing at a high speed. The next step in the design will probably be to move great power to the hand of each individual, as in other areas.

DL: What kind of design software and equipment do you use in your work?

AAD : We use a variety of softwares and equipmentx ranging from concenpt sketching and drawing, to 3D softwares such as Rhinoceros, Sketchup. As well as the Adobe programs. For the lighting design, the software dialux is also used for lighting configuration. V-ray is also highly used in our agency.

DL: What is the role of the color, materials and ambient in design?

AAD : It is difficult to judge these elements separately. the color is related to the reflection of the material, the color is reflected differently on each material. The Ambience is the result of all this. It is all of these elements that form the final moods, and that diaogue with users and visitors, in time and space.

DL: When you see a new great design or product what comes into your mind?

AAD : I will be very interested to know the process that led to this design, what is the idea and research behind.

DL: What is your favorite color, place, food, season, thing and brand?

AAD : Color: Indigo Place: Mountains Food: Desserts Season: Autumn Thing:Travel Brand: BoConcept
