Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer CUNEYT DARI ("CD") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

CD : Design for me is a part of my life, the meaning of my life can be said. Education - 2006, Interior Designer, Yeditepe University, Istanbul / Turkey.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

CD : The biggest source of energy for me is my family and children. I enjoy presenting the energy I've received from them to the other side.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

CD : My job is my dream since childhood. I enjoy fulfilling my dream. The world of Design is my world, our world.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

CD : They must work hard.

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

CD : Human diversity.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

CD : Good customer is necessary for good design, if your customer is beautiful and the design will be beautiful.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

CD : Good design reflects proper use, functionality and brand.

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

CD : Airport project.

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

CD : Travel a lot and explore.

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

CD : Norman Foster

DL: What are your favorite designs by other designers, why do you like them?

CD : Hotel projects. I like to make a hotel.

DL: What is your greatest design, which aspects of that design makes you think it is great?

CD : Design of hotels. If the architecture give you a sense of happiness that means design is great.

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

CD : I traveled and explored a lot.

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

CD : I'd be a psychologist.

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

CD : Design for me is my life.

DL: Who helped you to reach these heights, who was your biggest supporter?

CD : My family.

DL: What helped you to become a great designer?

CD : Working in many places I get support and help from many people.

DL: What were the obstacles you faced before becoming a design master?

CD : To overcome difficulties is my principle.

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

CD : Presenting your work as clothing for people.

DL: What’s your next design project, what should we expect from you in future?

CD : To transfer my experiences to young people in my work.

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

CD : To transfer my experiences to young people in my work.

DL: What people expect from an esteemed designer such as yourself?

CD : They respect you if you do your job properly

DL: How does design help create a better society?

CD : Design enhances the General education of society.

DL: What are you currently working on that you are especially excited about?

CD : We are dealing with hotel projects in many parts of the world

DL: Which design projects gave you the most satisfaction, why?

CD : The project in the Dominican Republic and Selectum hotel project.

DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?

CD : Natural materials and "forgotten " materials to create different designs.

DL: Where do you think the design field is headed next?

CD : Design from natural materials.

DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?

CD : Good project = good time = good results.

DL: When you have a new design project, where do you start?

CD : I am starting with thoughts and imaginations.

DL: What is your life motto as a designer?

CD : Life is good!

DL: Do you think design sets the trends or trends set the designs?

CD : Design sets the trends

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

CD : Technology is a tool that makes our performance executable.

DL: What kind of design software and equipment do you use in your work?

CD : Autocad, 3d Max, SketchUp, Photoshop, Lumion

DL: What is the role of the color, materials and ambient in design?

CD : All of this is the main fiction of design. Main elements of design.

DL: Irrelative of time and space, who you would want to meet, talk and discuss with?

CD : With Norman Foster

DL: How do you feel about all the awards and recognition you had, is it hard to be famous?

CD : It's hard because you have to work a lot and hard and you have no chance of mistake.

DL: What is your favorite color, place, food, season, thing and brand?

CD : Blue - Italian Capri - Strawberries - May

DL: Please tell us a little memoir, a funny thing you had experienced as a designer?

CD : We were going to set up a booth at a fair in Dubai, so we agreed with a some company. We went to check it out but they did everything wrong. Until the morning we did a booth by ourselves and it was most beautiful stand on the fair. Everybody wondered who did it. It is important to be able to create with their own hands.

DL: What makes your day great as a designer, how do you motivate yourself?

CD : The sea, the sand relaxes me. It is my inspiration.

DL: When you were a little child, was it obvious that you would become a great designer?

CD : That was my dream. My childhood lives and will live in all the projects I have built and will build.

DL: What do you think about future; what do you see will happen in thousand years from now?

CD : Design will never die. Our tombstone is the design too.

DL: Please tell us anything you wish your fans to know about you, your design and anything else?

CD : The design is my life's meaning and my life's source has become a product that will never come out of my life. Without the design I'm unhappy and my environment is unhappy. We designed serious hotels with this energy, we showed our designs and works to some important people. Their liking and criticism put us one step further. We promote our design work to make the environment world a better
