Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Qin mingqian ("QM") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

QM : A junior, as an undergraduate students in The school of Industrial Design in LAFA since 2014.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

QM : Because I like design,I hope my design can help more people and I want to be a famous designer.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

QM : I choose to be a designer because I love design.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

QM : I do some product design,I would like to design some small products.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

QM : I'm not a legend,No pains,no gains.

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

QM : Great designers need higher quality works, at the same time, the design can also be emotional to work.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

QM : Very strict taste, coupled with the ability to achieve this taste.Good design is brief, bold and inspiring.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

QM : Design is the common value of business and art.Good design can bring great economic benefits and meet people's needs.

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

QM : I want to design an artificial intelligence robot for me.

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

QM : I want to do design about steam punk.

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

QM : Repeated attempts and repeated modifications,Success depends on hard work and a little bit of luck.

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

QM : My teacher gave me a lot of advice and gave me a lot of help in appearance and function.

DL: What are your favorite designs by other designers, why do you like them?

QM : I like the design of Eco cake box,Because it can save natural resources, reduce waste and can be divided into several parts.

DL: What is your greatest design, which aspects of that design makes you think it is great?

QM : My conceptual design Tracer is my greatest design,It can reduce the space occupied by parking.

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

QM : Should try a variety of design.I try different aspects of design and repeatedly to think and modify.

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

QM : I will do some work related to painting.

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

QM : Design is communication,transmit.Design and life has been integrated, inseparable.

DL: Who helped you to reach these heights, who was your biggest supporter?

QM : My family my teacher and my friends.The biggest supporter is my parents.

DL: What helped you to become a great designer?

QM : My efforts with my experience and a bit of luck.

DL: What were the obstacles you faced before becoming a design master?

QM : Lack of experience and I need more effort.

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

QM : Show your best work, not all.Quantity is not the key to the quality of the work and you need to focus on your work.

DL: What’s your next design project, what should we expect from you in future?

QM : My next project will involve rescue efforts, which will help many people in danger.

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

QM : I want to be a famous designer.

DL: What people expect from an esteemed designer such as yourself?

QM : Rich experience and knowledge.

DL: How does design help create a better society?

QM : Design will bring convenience and innovation to our lives.

DL: What are you currently working on that you are especially excited about?

QM : I'm focusing on my studies.

DL: Which design projects gave you the most satisfaction, why?

QM : This is my most satisfying project.Because it won the prize.

DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?

QM : Design boundaries gradually relaxed and becoming more diverse.

DL: Where do you think the design field is headed next?

QM : The conceptual design.

DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?

QM : This uncertainty,It depends on the degree of difficulty of the project.

DL: When you have a new design project, where do you start?

QM : I'll start with the problems he has to solve.

DL: What is your life motto as a designer?

QM : Don't rely on anyone, strength and creativity is strong and hard to exercise, and parasitic dependence will only make yourself stagnant.

DL: Do you think design sets the trends or trends set the designs?

QM : They interact with each other.

QM : Rhinoceros, Photoshop, Keyshot

QM : Play an important role,they have a lot of influence on the design.

DL: What do you wish people to ask about your design?

QM : Ask some questions about its functionality.

DL: When you see a new great design or product what comes into your mind?

QM : Its creativity and the place that attracts me.

DL: Who is your ideal design partner? Do you believe in co-design?

QM : My teacher is my ideal design partner.Yes i do.

DL: Which people you interacted had the most influence on your design?

QM : My teacher and my friends.

DL: Which books you read had the most effect on your design?

QM : Design psychology

DL: How did you develop your skills as a master designer?

QM : Appreciate the work of others,absorb the advantages of others and keep on practicing.

DL: Irrelative of time and space, who you would want to meet, talk and discuss with?

QM : I would like to meet with Kenya Hara , mutual exchange of design ideas.

DL: How do you feel about all the awards and recognition you had, is it hard to be famous?

QM : Awards are a measure of my level,I need to do better.I'm far away from famous.

DL: What is your favorite color, place, food, season, thing and brand?

QM : Gray,white,home,barbecue,summer,PC game,swim,Apple

DL: Please tell us a little memoir, a funny thing you had experienced as a designer?

QM : We argued about the color of the product for a long time.

DL: What makes your day great as a designer, how do you motivate yourself?

QM : Constant thinking about existing problems and tell myself I can do it every time I give up

DL: When you were a little child, was it obvious that you would become a great designer?

QM : I want to be a designer in my four years ago,I didn't want to be a designer when I was young

DL: What do you think about future; what do you see will happen in thousand years from now?

QM : In the future, product design will become diversified and I want to make more contributions. I think one thousand years from now people will realize the dream of flying without equipment and achieve the transfer of space.

DL: Please tell us anything you wish your fans to know about you, your design and anything else?

QM : I want to pay more attention to my design than to me,I hope my design can bring convenience and special help to people.
