LEGENDARY INTERVIEW

Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Arsalan Ghadimi ("AG") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

AG : we have been working in the field of design for 12 years. we studied industrial design in the product sub-branch. My favorite field is furniture and lighting design.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

AG : The most important motivation in designing can be the change of a small element even in human life.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

AG : Becoming a designer is not a compulsion, it is your choice, until you want to design something, you will never come up with an idea, the best thing in design is the love of design.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

AG : Everything in design is enjoyable. Every project that comes my way presents a new challenge, making the process even more enjoyable. Each need transforms into a design, and eventually, into a product. It’s all about looking at that need from a different perspective.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

AG : Design is unlike other fields. Every day, you can create a new product or identify a new need and find a solution for it. No design is inherently better than another; it is the creativity and the ability to identify needs that distinguish one designer from another.

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

AG : A great designer doesn’t limit himself by suppressing his ideas. While a good designer can create a beautiful product, a great designer is one who breaks boundaries.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

AG : We live in a competitive world, where given two products, people tend to choose the more aesthetically pleasing one. Therefore, we must pay close attention to the details in our designs.

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

AG : That sounds like a fantastic aspiration! Designing luxury cruise boats or yachts would indeed be an exciting and rewarding challenge. For now, focusing on furniture design is a great way to hone our skills and creativity. Each piece of furniture you design can be a step towards achieving your dream.

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

AG : That’s completely understandable. Sometimes it’s best to keep our dreams and projects close until we’re ready to share them. When the time is right, I’m sure our designs will be amazing.

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

AG : In my opinion, design has no hidden elements; it is only necessary that we never forget the details. I believe the most important part of a design is the details.

DL: What is your greatest design, which aspects of that design makes you think it is great?

AG : I like the Lunule chair very much because it reflects the culture of my country. I identified a need in it and aimed to prevent people from getting sick. I chose this design myself.

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

AG : A designer must see and experience. Without exposure to good products, a designer will never become truly great. While he may be able to solve problems, he cannot create products that are both beautiful and functional.

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

AG : If I wasn't a designer, I would like to be a lawyer.

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

AG : In my opinion, no other word can define design better than creativity.

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

AG : Presenting a design is an art; you can’t set a strict framework for it. The most important principle is to understand your audience—know what they need and how they prefer the product to be presented. This can be your winning card.

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

AG : I hope that I can design a product and leave it as a memento, so that after my death, that product will represent me and ensure I am not forgotten.

DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?

AG : It depends on the project, the schedule for each project is different

DL: When you have a new design project, where do you start?

AG : Designing should start from the beginning, much like creating a wheel. You should consider the process from its inception and strive to improve it gradually to meet the needs.

DL: What kind of design software and equipment do you use in your work?

AG : Solidworks and Keyshot
