LEGENDARY INTERVIEW

Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Vyri Junhan Yang ("VJY") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

VJY : I was born in Beijing, China. After graduating from University of Science & Technology Beijing with a Bachelor Degree in Engineering, I worked as a Visual Designer and Site Architect at Municipal Commission of Tourism Development Haidian District Beijing for a while. I attended Academy of Art University with a MFA Degree in Fashion Design from 2014.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

VJY : I just want to.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

VJY : Now i'm in the fashion word. and this the way i could explain my idea.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

VJY : I don't know. I'm still young.

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

VJY : Good designer could do some really good design work, and great designer is themselves and they are a part of their design.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

VJY : I don't know.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

VJY : Work for the human.

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

VJY : The cherish emotions.

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

VJY : Could i say my mom, she lead me into the design world.

DL: What are your favorite designs by other designers, why do you like them?

VJY : I like a lot, anything i could read the emotions form that i could like it.

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

VJY : I believe design is a psychological creative process. It comes from life, and changes life, and influences life. In the fashion world, I integrate shapes, colors, materials, and decorations to convey a paradox.

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

VJY : I'm just a part time designer. i have my formal job in the IT company. If i did't become a designer my i could prefer the film director.

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

VJY : The way to explain the idea.

DL: What helped you to become a great designer?

VJY : I'm still working on it.

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

VJY : I don't know.

DL: What’s your next design project, what should we expect from you in future?

VJY : I have a lot 2D project i'm waiting to make them come true.

DL: How does design help create a better society?

VJY : Design is helping to create the better life.

DL: Where do you think the design field is headed next?

VJY : Everything could possible.

DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?

VJY : A moment.

DL: When you have a new design project, where do you start?

VJY : Sketchbook.

DL: What kind of design software and equipment do you use in your work?

VJY : Everything i know how to use and like to use.

DL: What is the role of the color, materials and ambient in design?

VJY : uncertain.

DL: Who is your ideal design partner? Do you believe in co-design?

VJY : The people who could understand me.

DL: How did you develop your skills as a master designer?

VJY : practice.

DL: Irrelative of time and space, who you would want to meet, talk and discuss with?

VJY : Like minds.

DL: What is your favorite color, place, food, season, thing and brand?

VJY : Not sure. i like black most.

DL: Please tell us a little memoir, a funny thing you had experienced as a designer?

VJY : I couldn't remember.

DL: When you were a little child, was it obvious that you would become a great designer?

VJY : Even though I didn’t have a background in art, I was grown up with all kind of creative things. I’m really thankful that I was born in a well-educated family. I was influenced by my mother who usually made some interesting artworks such as drawings, clothes, dolls, and music, especially she loves making cloth, and most of my clothes were made by my mother, even though her job is engineering. I stepped into this charming art world when I was little child. My mom supported me to learn a lot of extra-curricular art-related classes.

DL: What do you think about future; what do you see will happen in thousand years from now?

VJY : I'm not sure.
