Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Keyvan Kasaei ("KK") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

KK : I have studied Industrial Design as a major in University.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

KK : Details are important to me in Design. and also I like to have my own creations & products that make a good impact on people's lives.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

KK : I have chosen to be a Designer.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

KK : I love any aspect of Art & Design and I try to see them as a whole but also I have discovered a new passion in Service Design : developing SaaS Services, Mobile Apps & Cloud Computing

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

KK : 1)Discover, 2)Build 3)Measure 4) Feedback. This is a learning Loop which never ends but validates your Understanding of whether you are on the right track.

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

KK : Great designers are visionaries but good designers are followers.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

KK : I say, The thought process & approach based on the medium & context of the Design. and next is the presentation.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

KK : Good design makes habits and habits form how we live.

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

KK : I would design & implement Services to address unique needs of the Society. like Uber

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

KK : I always have a long list of projects I want to build, as a designer you are always like that.

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

KK : Thinking Differently and presenting Differently.

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

KK : Now days, Elon Musk and those who work on AI.

DL: What are your favorite designs by other designers, why do you like them?

KK : Tesla Model S by Franz von Holzhausen. I am always fascinated by Car Designs

DL: What is your greatest design, which aspects of that design makes you think it is great?

KK : A project that my team is going to launch in near future. It is a Service based project which lots of User experience touches. I think that would be my greatest achievement so far.

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

KK : Find your niche and practice.

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

KK : Business Man.

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

KK : Design is a way of thinking in which changes the way we live and it can have different forms & approaches.

DL: Who helped you to reach these heights, who was your biggest supporter?

KK : My Students & teams, Also my Mistakes, Mentors, Environment & Family are on the top of my head.

DL: What helped you to become a great designer?

KK : Mistakes & Risks, Validated learning and also making more mistakes

DL: What were the obstacles you faced before becoming a design master?

KK : Learning to organize yourself is as important as the skills you build.

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

KK : Delivering the message in less than 30 Seconds can help. and also having User in mind is the key.

DL: What’s your next design project, what should we expect from you in future?

KK : I am working on SaaS cloud-based Services.

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

KK : to have an impact on human life through my designs

DL: What people expect from an esteemed designer such as yourself?

KK : to present a solid product and services which can change their lives for good.

DL: How does design help create a better society?

KK : Design makes us better if not the best we can be.

DL: What are you currently working on that you are especially excited about?

KK : A Service based Uber-like Mobile app.

DL: Which design projects gave you the most satisfaction, why?

KK : Any Service-Design projects that I've been involved were extremely satisfying .

DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?

KK : Designers should learn to code. and we should embrace Technology.

DL: Where do you think the design field is headed next?

KK : AI based future

DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?

KK : 12 weeks for POC/MVP and based on Success depends on the scope of the project.

DL: When you have a new design project, where do you start?

KK : Requirement gathering

DL: What is your life motto as a designer?

KK : I am my own competition

DL: Do you think design sets the trends or trends set the designs?

KK : they are interchangeable

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

KK : Technology is the way to go and i think it has already affected our industry,

DL: What kind of design software and equipment do you use in your work?

KK : Rhino, Photoshop, Sketch, AWS cloud services, IOS, Android, various programming languages.

DL: What is the role of the color, materials and ambient in design?

KK : it is like the role of Sun rays in a beautiful day.

DL: What do you wish people to ask about your design?

KK : Critique my work and give me Constructive feedback. so I can serve more.

DL: When you see a new great design or product what comes into your mind?

KK : Joy & happiness.

DL: Who is your ideal design partner? Do you believe in co-design?

KK : Ambitious, Extraordinary and trouble maker.

DL: Which people you interacted had the most influence on your design?

KK : All those were not Following Common patterns. or set higher standards.

DL: Which books you read had the most effect on your design?

KK : The Biography of Steve Jobs.

DL: How did you develop your skills as a master designer?

KK : Self Taught, Practicing.

DL: Irrelative of time and space, who you would want to meet, talk and discuss with?

KK : Elon Musk & I will.

DL: How do you feel about all the awards and recognition you had, is it hard to be famous?

KK : Feels good. Not at all.

DL: What is your favorite color, place, food, season, thing and brand?

KK : Orange, on a beach, grilled Salmon fish, Summer, Tesla Model S.

DL: Please tell us a little memoir, a funny thing you had experienced as a designer?

KK : I once was drawing a shoe to practice perspective while I was traveling by an inner city bus, and funny enough somebody was willing to buy it from me.

DL: What makes your day great as a designer, how do you motivate yourself?

KK : Each sprint that I pass and feedbacks that I receive motivate me to go on.

DL: When you were a little child, was it obvious that you would become a great designer?

KK : I really can't say but I had a great imagination and also was drawing things and planning all the time.

DL: What do you think about future; what do you see will happen in thousand years from now?

KK : We are travelling deep space. but still we are designing

DL: Please tell us anything you wish your fans to know about you, your design and anything else?

KK : Please keep curious about life. we live only once.
