Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Aril ("Aril") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

Aril : Anadolu University ceramic license. Maltepe University interior architecture master

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

Aril : Staying alone in crowded environments motivates me. I always liked the design process. The development that led me to decide to be a designer was that the design I made in the first professional work was very demanding.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

Aril : Actually, it was completely my choice. As a result, I prefer to make things professional business life I like to do

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

Aril : It is my pleasure to work on a particular problem, issue or expectation. What I want to work on further in the future is the product designs that I can offer to the final consumer.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

Aril : I can say that they have to live their individual designing processes beyond the time they are in the training process. (25 Designers' Interview)

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

Aril : A good designer is someone who transfers what they know to his designs. A perfect designer is someone who is trying to add as much as possible to each project or each product that he designed. The perception of a perfect designer is always clear.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

Aril : By solving the issue in the simplest way and solving it without any important details, it is a success.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

Aril : Design is not only a matter of companies but also a country to think and invest in. The design increases or decreases by the value you give to it. The product design determines which of the two products will be more expensive, even if the quality of the two different products and the raw materials used are the same.

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

Aril : I would prefer to work on a place rather than working on a person. I would like to work in Bodrum (a city in Turkey). The area and cultural heritage of Bodrum are enoguh to influence me all the time.

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

Apart from that, I can say that we started to get a very conscious and more aware social view. I believe we will take very quick and sure steps in this process.

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

DL: What is your life motto as a designer?

Aril : In fact, the basic principle I am fictionalising on the design is to capture the human-focused and previously unseen fronts.

DL: Do you think design sets the trends or trends set the designs?

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

Aril : Definitely not debatable. In our life we technology have a place where can not be ignored. Especially in the design, the place can not be abandoned.

Aril : I will tell you the funniest thing that I experienced in the beginning of this process. In 2011, when I was a sturdent my product was selected at the university board. Produced and taken to fairs. After that many people wanted to meet me and see my portfolio. At that time I hadn’t a digital portfolio and I had to take prototype of products to everybody. They were surprised when they saw my portfolio.

DL: What makes your day great as a designer, how do you motivate yourself?

Aril : How I start the day determines my motivation in the day. I have very productive day if I get up and start to work early. The work places I have chosen are also very effective.

Aril : I think my family's thoughts are more important here. According to what they said, the toys and designs I made while I was young were quite remarkable.

DL: What do you think about future; what do you see will happen in thousand years from now?

Aril : Before looking at the estimates about the future, I look at the estimates of designers in the past for these days, and I see that you are not getting close. But if there is no raw material problem or any disaster, it is likely that people will be lost in an interesting technology.

DL: Please tell us anything you wish your fans to know about you, your design and anything else?

Aril : They can follow my studies and future projects from my site. http://www.berkaril.com/
