LEGENDARY INTERVIEW
Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Seyed Mohammad Mortazavi ("SMM") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.
DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?
SMM : I studied Civil Engineering and the changed my way to study Jewelry designing in 2003, there was no any academic and general education for the "Jewelry designing"in Iran , so i tried to learn by myself through the internet and online courses, then i went to Italy to study jewelry designing in the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in 2010
DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?
SMM : actually the most thing motivated me to design is the "Love to designing" , i love the feeling when you design something new and bringing what is in your mind to the real world, that is why i love to design everyday more and more !
DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?
SMM : absolutely i have chosen to be a designer by myself and my heart ! be a designer i that kind of jobs and activities which you should love it to do !
DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?
SMM : i design jewelry ! accessories and sometimes everything ! i love the "Modern look"designs , Minimal designs and sometimes retro style with modern look designs!
DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?
SMM : Well, to be a good designer you should work hard every day, motivate your self to achieve your goals! and do not stop learning, searching and looking for a difference in every aspect of designing process !
DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?
SMM : well , to me good design is what simply you love it in the first sight ! when i see a design or when i want to evaluate a design, at first i do not look at it so deeply just a simple quick look , its enough to love a design !
DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?
SMM : If i had more time i definitely became a car designer or home-ware designer, i love to design interior architecture also home ware, like tables , chairs, bookshelf,
DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?
SMM : Absolutely in the jewelry field there is many legends which you can inspire from them, to me, Cartier the King of jewelers, also Boucheron and Bulgari brands are some of the most inspirational sources .
DL: What are your favorite designs by other designers, why do you like them?
SMM : i designed a Pendant"Circus pendant" which i love it and i heard many many good comments from the other about this one and also a Ruby ring named"Bypass tension"which i love the most in my designs, i think in most of my designs there is a minimal look and minimized details inside each pieces,
