Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Elena Prokhorova ("EP") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

EP : I've always been fascinated by how design can blend aesthetics with functionality, creating pieces that are not only beautiful but also practical. My design journey started with a passion for art and creativity, which evolved into a desire to solve real-world problems through innovative solutions. The joy of seeing my designs make a positive impact on users' daily lives is what keeps me inspired and dedicated to this field.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

EP : Most often I create furniture design, as well as other interior items. Lately, I've been more focused on upholstered furniture. Usually, I develop a single item or a series of items at once, whichever I like best. I like to work with furniture series or even think more globally about the company's product range as a whole.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

EP : Good design is not only about aesthetics and function, and especially not about trends. In my understanding, good design is a timeless design, when the shape is as simple as possible and at the same time maximum comfort and pleasure from use is achieved.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

EP : As I said, good design is timeless, so its value is quite obvious. If we are talking about interior and furniture design, then trendy design is very fleeting and the rate at which such design ceases to be relevant is constantly accelerating, exacerbating the problem of excessive consumption. In contrast, timeless design is an investment of both money and time.
