Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Jiahuizi Xu ("JX") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

JX : I majored in product styling design.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

JX : Because I saw a lot of interesting things in life, I decided to become a designer.Design is very interesting to me.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

JX : I chose to be a designer.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

JX : I will design product packaging, and I hope to design more other types of designs.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

JX : do and learn

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

JX : Think more

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

JX : Useful design

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

JX : Good design can bring added value to the product. Invest in good design and enjoy the added attributes it brings.

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

JX : I want to design a pop-up book for adults.

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

JX : I want to stop and live slowly.

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

JX : Think more and do more.

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

JX : Mies Vander Rohe

DL: What are your favorite designs by other designers, why do you like them?

JX : Farnsworth House from Mies Vander Rohe.Because this building shows the combination of modernity and nature.

DL: What is your greatest design, which aspects of that design makes you think it is great?

JX : Guotai Panda Bionic Chinese Baijiu Packaging.This is a design that everyone likes, and it is loved by customers and consumer groups as well as designer groups.

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

JX : Think more, learn more, do more.

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

JX : I thought I would be a writer.

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

JX : Design is life.

DL: Who helped you to reach these heights, who was your biggest supporter?

JX : my parents

DL: What were the obstacles you faced before becoming a design master?

JX : I don’t have a serious mentor, so I almost always learn on my own, and sometimes I feel confused.

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

JX : Display through portfolio or social platforms

DL: What’s your next design project, what should we expect from you in future?

JX : Recently I am making a cultural and creative gift box, hoping to find a balance between traditional and modern aesthetics.

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

JX : Think more, learn more, do more.

DL: What people expect from an esteemed designer such as yourself?

JX : Be able to keep moving forward slowly on this road

DL: How does design help create a better society?

JX : I believe that combining beauty with reality can create a better society.

DL: What are you currently working on that you are especially excited about?

JX : a cultural and creative gift box

DL: Which design projects gave you the most satisfaction, why?

JX : Every project is, because I put my heart and soul into it when I do it.

DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?

JX : More humane and diverse

DL: Where do you think the design field is headed next?

JX : More precipitation

DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?

JX : One month

DL: When you have a new design project, where do you start?

JX : Think more

JX : Think more, learn more, do more.

DL: Do you think design sets the trends or trends set the designs?

JX : Design leads the trend.

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

JX : All-around designer

DL: What kind of design software and equipment do you use in your work?

JX : Blender,Windows

DL: What is the role of the color, materials and ambient in design?

JX : Decisive role

DL: What do you wish people to ask about your design?

JX : I want people to ask me "Why?"

DL: When you see a new great design or product what comes into your mind?

JX : The world is so wonderful.

DL: Who is your ideal design partner? Do you believe in co-design?

JX : I would like to have the opportunity to collaborate with Lingyun Creative. I believe in co-design.

DL: Which people you interacted had the most influence on your design?

JX : My parents

DL: Which books you read had the most effect on your design?

JX : History of philosophy

DL: How did you develop your skills as a master designer?

JX : Think more, learn more, do more.

JX : Mies Vander Rohe

DL: How do you feel about all the awards and recognition you had, is it hard to be famous?

JX : I feel like everything is cumulative. It's really hard to become famous.

DL: What is your favorite color, place, food, season, thing and brand?

JX : Red,hometown,peach,summer,backpack,Under Armour

DL: Please tell us a little memoir, a funny thing you had experienced as a designer?

JX : I once met a customer who didn't quite know what he wanted and had a bad temper. Through friendly communication and guidance, he finally knew what he wanted.

DL: What makes your day great as a designer, how do you motivate yourself?

JX : A glass of warm water.I usually tell myself life is so wonderful.

DL: When you were a little child, was it obvious that you would become a great designer?

JX : Yes,I know.

DL: What do you think about future; what do you see will happen in thousand years from now?

JX : I think the future is unknown, but the present is wonderful. I think in a thousand years, humans will be migrating to Mars in Noah’s Ark, right?

DL: Please tell us anything you wish your fans to know about you, your design and anything else?

JX : About design.
