LEGENDARY INTERVIEW

Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Gloguu Ltd ("GL") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

GL : After four years of study in industrial design at the university, I graduated and became an industrial designer of a leading design company in Shanghai, China. I always dreamed of starting my own design brand, so after resigning, I put into action and founded GLOGUU company together with several partners.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

GL : For me, it's the desire to get something straight, to have something better, or to have the freedom to pursue something beautiful and a more imaginative life that drives me to design. I grew up in an era in China where design went from unpopular to emerging, and the concept of design has taken root since my childhood.I have always liked drawing since I was a child, but I didn't want to pursue a career in pure art.The profession of a designer has artistic attributes and can solve problems rationally, which perfectly fits the role I want to be.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

GL : I choose to be a designer.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

GL : I love designing cute things! If a design work can make people feel some warmth, some emotional resonance, or a knowing smile when watching, touching, or using it, it is also a very abstract and beautiful connection for me. I like designs that are challenging，which are to explore a better life for people and a better environment. Such as social innovation design and sustainable design.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

GL : At the beginning, you don't have to care too much about whether your work is perfect or not. Improve your aesthetics and learn to enjoy life. Design is a discipline that requires increased insight and improved multidisciplinary knowledge. Don't get stuck in your head, do more, write more, the actual progress may be more difficult and more challenging than in your mind. Don't be complacent about winning an award or a project, the best work is always in the future.

DL: How does design help create a better society?

GL : Every design work should be responsible for the society and the environment, and make a problem have a better solution, make a system have a better operation mode, and rationally convert resources instead of creating waste，and guide all citizens to enhance the awareness of environmental protection, guide to create a high-quality social environment.

DL: Irrelative of time and space, who you would want to meet, talk and discuss with?

GL : With my grandmother, listening to her stories
