LEGENDARY INTERVIEW

Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Wen Lung Cho ("WLC") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

WLC : I graduated from Taichung University of Science and Technology in Taiwan with a degree in Visual Communication Design and have been working in design and illustration ever since.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

WLC : I love design/illustration and naturally become a design/illustrator

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

WLC : I choose to be a designer/illustrator

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

WLC : My illustrations are of soft appeal, and all types of designs/illustrations with soft appeal would like to participate

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

WLC : Know why you're doing it and stick with it

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

WLC : Good designers design good works, and the works of great designers will be handed down

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

WLC : Touching people's hearts is naturally a good design/illustration

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

WLC : The value of good design is to touch people's hearts, and people's hearts are the most difficult to satisfy, so design/illustration that satisfies most people's hearts is worth investing in

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

WLC : Continue to travel illustration creation, and create for those who love me

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

WLC : travel around the world

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

WLC : Love and research to understand is the secret

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

WLC : Inspiration comes more from own experience and observation of the surroundings

DL: What are your favorite designs by other designers, why do you like them?

WLC : The designer's natural and unique style is what I like, because the unique style cannot be achieved by others

DL: What is your greatest design, which aspects of that design makes you think it is great?

WLC : Travel illustration series, completely my favorite creation

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

WLC : Enrich knowledge and observe all

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

WLC : Design = beautiful and feeling experience, design creates beautiful feeling experience

DL: Who helped you to reach these heights, who was your biggest supporter?

WLC : Teaching my seniors and family

DL: What helped you to become a great designer?

WLC : Work in progress towards a great designer/illustrator

DL: What were the obstacles you faced before becoming a design master?

WLC : The design/illustration is not understood by the other party

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

WLC : Participate in more competitions

DL: What’s your next design project, what should we expect from you in future?

WLC : still thinking

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

WLC : free creation

DL: What people expect from an esteemed designer such as yourself?

WLC : lol...I don't understand what other people expect

DL: How does design help create a better society?

WLC : Design more works that satisfy people's hearts

DL: What are you currently working on that you are especially excited about?

WLC : haha... not particularly excited

DL: Which design projects gave you the most satisfaction, why?

WLC : Travel illustration series, completely my favorite creation

DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?

WLC : More emphasis on design/illustrator

DL: Where do you think the design field is headed next?

WLC : Amateurs, etc... More diverse design styles

DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?

WLC : Not necessarily, it depends on the size of the case

DL: When you have a new design project, where do you start?

WLC : Think after understanding

WLC : A lot of like-minded but sometimes questionable partners. don't quite believe

WLC : happy. It's not easy to be famous

DL: What is your favorite color, place, food, season, thing and brand?

WLC : green, seaside, seafood, autumn, travel, no particular favorite brand

DL: Please tell us a little memoir, a funny thing you had experienced as a designer?

WLC : The first time I submitted a newspaper illustration, I received a notice of admission and publication.

DL: What makes your day great as a designer, how do you motivate yourself?

WLC : Design/illustration is life, encouraging yourself should be able to achieve

DL: What do you think about future; what do you see will happen in thousand years from now?

WLC : Continue to design and draw illustrations; live in the moment

DL: Please tell us anything you wish your fans to know about you, your design and anything else?

WLC : I hope my illustrations make you feel happy
