Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer MASOUD SERATI NOURI ("MSN") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

MSN : I have a degree in architecture and before I started working in the field of jewelry, I worked in architecture and design. Due to my interest in this field, I started studying jewelry at the same time as architecture.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

MSN : This may be an inner feeling in the first stage, but in the next step, I have a special interest in creating and this has always been my motivation.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

MSN : I chose to be a designer with an inner interest.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

MSN : I have been doing jewelry design professionally for several years. I am mostly interested in modern design.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

MSN : Surely more work and practice will be useful for them.

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

MSN : In my opinion, there must have been a lot of practice between the two.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

MSN : The human concept of design and its adaptation to form is, in my opinion, the best design.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

MSN : The human value that is taken into account in any project, in my opinion, is how good it is, and the reason for investing in a good project is that we designers have a responsibility to society that we must do well.

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

MSN : I always design for the whole of humanity by choosing human needs and values.

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

MSN : The use of ligaments or artificial intelligence as well as the use of light in jewelry.

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

MSN : In my opinion, there is no special secret other than practicing.

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

MSN : I mostly use architects who are numerous.

DL: What are your favorite designs by other designers, why do you like them?

MSN : Parametric designs are always exciting to me because of their mysterious complexity.

DL: What is your greatest design, which aspects of that design makes you think it is great?

MSN : Only the use of human concepts and the discovery of hidden aspects of human beings with the aim of elevating human life.

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

MSN : In my opinion, the answer to this question is nothing but practice and experience.

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

MSN : I must have been a designer, but in answer to this question I must say that I would have liked to have become a doctor.

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

MSN : n my opinion, it is a kind of discovery and intuition that the designer makes with himself in the first stages and then combines it with his studies to finally reach the design.

DL: Who helped you to reach these heights, who was your biggest supporter?

MSN : First the family and then some professors.

DL: What helped you to become a great designer?

MSN : I feel more alone and relaxed with myself and I feel that it has affected me a lot.

DL: What were the obstacles you faced before becoming a design master?

MSN : Lack of design knowledge and software were my main problems.

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

MSN : I can not prescribe a specific method, but it can be said that the designer must know the market or the destination of the design.

DL: What’s your next design project, what should we expect from you in future?

MSN : In addition to general designs, I try to present a design in jewelry that is combined with technology or artificial intelligence.

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

MSN : Improving and beautifying human life as much as possible.

DL: What people expect from an esteemed designer such as yourself?

MSN : Present new and exciting designs with new ideas.

DL: How does design help create a better society?

MSN : By examining and discovering the problems of society and providing solutions for them.

DL: What are you currently working on that you are especially excited about?

MSN : World competitions and competitions are very exciting for me and I have been very successful in my first year in them.

DL: Which design projects gave you the most satisfaction, why?

MSN : In any plan that I reach the desired final result, I am satisfied. At that moment, I feel that my heart and mind have reached perfect harmony and a pure plan has been born.

DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?

MSN : A kind of transformation and production of forms and functions that have not been seen until today.
