Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Maja Zińczuk ("MZ") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

MZ : I graduated from film school, but there was also a design profile like architects, graphic designers and others.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

MZ : At first I didn't think about being a designer, but over time it came to me :)

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

MZ : I think it will be photography and filmmaking.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

MZ : Be yourself, you will find your own style.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

MZ : I pay attention to the details of the project, I have to complete it to the end.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

MZ : Good design is a sign of good taste, artistic expression and knowledge.

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

MZ : My dream is to design multimedia exhibitions.

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

MZ : An immersive exhibition in a very atmospheric place.

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

MZ : Many factors determine the success of projects. These are also the people who help with the project.

DL: How does design help create a better society?

MZ : Good design creates a psychologically good workplace, environment, home and so on. It affects our well-being

DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?

MZ : It depends on the type of project, how long it is, what needs to be done, the type of task and the cost.

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

MZ : Technology is certainly useful, good work flow helps to improve work.

DL: What kind of design software and equipment do you use in your work?

MZ : I use Sony camera Fs5, some good Sony lenses. Software like Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere.

DL: What is the role of the color, materials and ambient in design?

MZ : In my profession, colors, light and surroundings are of key importance. Everything must be thought out and prepared in advance. This is the role of photography and film.

DL: What do you wish people to ask about your design?

MZ : To ask what the idea was behind the project. But it would be best if it could be noticed earlier.

DL: When you see a new great design or product what comes into your mind?

MZ : How much intricate and good work was put into it.

DL: Who is your ideal design partner? Do you believe in co-design?

MZ : Every day I cooperate with various artists from various industries. These are the preparations for the exhibitions we hold in our art gallery.

DL: Which people you interacted had the most influence on your design?

MZ : People who can spread good energy and optimism. Those who go beyond the beaten path.

DL: Which books you read had the most effect on your design?

MZ : This may come as a surprise, but books about film set design.

DL: How did you develop your skills as a master designer?

MZ : It has undoubtedly been a long road. At the beginning there were studies, then slowly getting into work. Thousands of photos taken for free.

DL: Irrelative of time and space, who you would want to meet, talk and discuss with?

MZ : These will be definitely optimistic people with good energy to work and with knowledge and faith in what they do.

DL: How do you feel about all the awards and recognition you had, is it hard to be famous?

MZ : It's definitely a great feeling :)

DL: What is your favorite color, place, food, season, thing and brand?

MZ : My favourite color is red, I like places near lakes, my favourite food is pad thai and I like Spring the most.

DL: What makes your day great as a designer, how do you motivate yourself?

MZ : Every day I try to think well about my projects, I don't get discouraged.

DL: When you were a little child, was it obvious that you would become a great designer?

MZ : I think it's my passion for cool places, paying attention to details and the surroundings.

DL: What do you think about future; what do you see will happen in thousand years from now?

MZ : I don't know, but I want everything to be fine.
