Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Arkadia Works ("AW") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

AW : Architecture bachelor degree from Brawijaya University, Malang, Indonesia

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

AW : I love a well planned spaces

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

AW : I chose to be one.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

AW : Keep doing what you love, embrace the challenges.

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

AW : Great designers keep pushing and creating designs that are well balance between function and aesthetic

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

AW : Has that great feeling of everything is well thought and planned.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

AW : It will last and distinguishes the owner from each other.

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

AW : A well known brand

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

AW : Design a landmark

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

AW : Embrace the challenges

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

AW : Kelly Wearstler, Andra Matin

DL: What are your favorite designs by other designers, why do you like them?

AW : Zaha Hadid's landmarks design

DL: What is your greatest design, which aspects of that design makes you think it is great?

AW : Concentrix office at Yogyakarta. Has that balance between traditional Javanese elements and modern style

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

AW : Keep pushing myself towards new design style

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

AW : an Illustrator

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

AW : Something that has a functionality for its user and also has a great aesthetic.

DL: Who helped you to reach these heights, who was your biggest supporter?

AW : My parents.

DL: What helped you to become a great designer?

AW : My parents and my lecturers in Univesity.

DL: What were the obstacles you faced before becoming a design master?

AW : Maintaining mu ego towards a client brief.

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

AW : It should not need much words to describe it.

DL: What’s your next design project, what should we expect from you in future?

AW : A more great interior designs

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

AW : A landmark that is designed by me and my team

DL: What people expect from an esteemed designer such as yourself?

AW : Requirement fullness

DL: How does design help create a better society?

AW : WIth better design, the users will be able to live their lives better.

DL: What are you currently working on that you are especially excited about?

AW : Its classified

DL: Which design projects gave you the most satisfaction, why?

AW : Concentrix office Yogyakarta

DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?

AW : More people would understand the importance of time/duration of a design process.

DL: Where do you think the design field is headed next?

AW : Towards a more simple but spacey design

DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?

AW : 3-5 weeks

DL: When you have a new design project, where do you start?

AW : Understanding the brief the move on to the concept

DL: What is your life motto as a designer?

AW : Great design speaks for itself

AW : Design sets the trends

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

AW : Important

DL: What is the role of the color, materials and ambient in design?

AW : Conducts the mood.

DL: What do you wish people to ask about your design?

AW : What is the big concept?

DL: When you see a new great design or product what comes into your mind?

AW : I wish I think of that

DL: Who is your ideal design partner? Do you believe in co-design?

AW : My teammates

AW : My teammates

DL: How did you develop your skills as a master designer?

AW : By keep an open mind

AW : Earth tone

DL: Please tell us a little memoir, a funny thing you had experienced as a designer?

AW : My rejected design ended up on another project built by the client

DL: What makes your day great as a designer, how do you motivate yourself?

AW : An approved design

DL: When you were a little child, was it obvious that you would become a great designer?

AW : Not really

DL: What do you think about future; what do you see will happen in thousand years from now?

AW : Im more of today-person. And would love to keep be the best of myself for today.

DL: Please tell us anything you wish your fans to know about you, your design and anything else?

AW : I worked hard to be where I'am now
