Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer OPPO Industrial Design Team ("OIDT") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.
DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?
OIDT : By understanding people’s underlying needs and desires, striving to create compelling innovations that create value for people through our constant pursue of perfection in our design, care for quality, craftsmanship and uniqueness in every single detail.
DL: How does design help create a better society?
OIDT : In life, we are met with all sorts of problems and personal needs. Design is about making life better by providing relevant and meaningful solutions. By rethinking of how we could live better, collectively and creatively, we can perhaps make a positive impact on peoples’ life.
DL: What is the role of the color, materials and ambient in design?
OIDT : Color, materials and finishing are a crucial area in the design, and ensuring that we consider all aspects in lifestyle changes and people needs, through trend analysis, we can deliver and maintain a color palette specific catered to each of our target consumer groups with authenticity, uniqueness and relevance.
DL: When you see a new great design or product what comes into your mind?
OIDT : We believe a great design or product can always be better, so the first thing we always ask ourselves is how can we make this even better and what are the unmet needs that this great product has probably missed out?
DL: Who is your ideal design partner? Do you believe in co-design?
OIDT : In Oppo, we believe in teamwork and co-creation. Designers are an important and vital part of creating well-crafted products and solutions together with product managers and research and technology teams. We believe that collaborative innovation works best when all of the stakeholders not just only our internal team members but also our customers and suppliers can bring in insightful ideas and improve together.
