LEGENDARY INTERVIEW

Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer GEORGIANA GHIT ("GG") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

GG : My vision in design studies is different but in a good way. Since I was a little girl I was interested in painting and drawing. I studied art and architecture in high school. I graduated National University of Arts and Design in Bucharest, Romania. I activated in digital art, graphic design and my favorite: product design. During the years I understood that every cross road was with the purpose to grow myself and to educate others too.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

GG : Why design? Because design made me who I am today. The thinking process and the experiments learned me to focus more on the details and on people needs. My life is changed during the process because I always learn that my concepts have a cause behind the story.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

GG : It was my choice and I'm happy with it.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

GG : I'm preoccupied with the sustainable category, the recycled materials but also with the innovations. I like to have a real story in every project. I would love to focus on social, environment design category.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

GG : To fail. When you experiment you will find the right answer.

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

GG : The purpose.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

GG : A really good design is dedicated to people. A really great design stands out. I evaluate a good design in terms of the 3 needs: simple, functional, aesthetic.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

GG : I evaluate a good design in 3 terms: simple, functional, aesthetic. Everyone should invest in a good design because that design can have a great impact of changing things worldwide.

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

GG : I never thought until now, but probably I would love to create a product for my personal needs. I think every designer should make in the entire career, at least one product starting from one or two personal problems/necessities. Because probably will be hard to create something for us too. We are always seeking for what people want, but if for them is never enough and we always try to perfect the imperfect, how will be the imperfect, perfect for us? I can't answer what I would design, but at least will have a minimal touch.

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

GG : My dream design project is to create a nature reserve, a sanctuary for animals who were abused.

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

GG : To have faith.

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

GG : Karim Rashid is on top of the list but I studied and found inspiration from Dieter Rams, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Le Corbusier and other great design legends.

DL: What are your favorite designs by other designers, why do you like them?

GG : I appreciate the aesthetic shape and the details of the simplicity. The product looks clean and easy to use. Dieter Rams said that: simplicity is the key to excellence. I must agree.

DL: What is your greatest design, which aspects of that design makes you think it is great?

GG : Not sure if the greatest, cause I'm young, but for sure had it's way and impact for the public. The project - Delta Pendant Lamp, won 2 prizez and was appreciated by the romanian design industry and had compliments from Lisa Rosso, the chief-editor of Icon Design.

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?
