LEGENDARY INTERVIEW

Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer niandi xu ("NX") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

NX : I studied at Southwest University for Nationalities in China, majoring in environmental art and design. I have a bachelor's degree and have worked in the field of interior design for 9 years. I have rich design ability and adhere to the design of original works. I have a great reputation in the field of interior design in Chongqing, China.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

NX : Because of my love for interior design, I used new materials and ideas to design different works. This challenging work made me like it very much. I have worked hard to be a qualified designer since then.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

NX : I choose to be a designer because I like it for a long time and like to create some special, fashionable and comfortable space.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

NX : I mainly do interior space design. I hope to design more creative and interesting interior space works, make the space appear unique and magical, and make more people like such space.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

NX : Young designers should go to read more masters' works, analyze their design purpose, design logic and aesthetic height from these works, then learn from their experience in their own projects, complete with new original design, finally accumulate rich experience in the actual process, and you will become a master one day in the future.

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

NX : A good designer can skillfully and skillfully use the design knowledge, so that the project design can be implemented without problems, just like completing a work. Excellent designers will break through the difficulties of design and design different places from the public design, just like the project as a child.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

NX : The value of good design is to solve problems better, and let all problems be solved by means of design. That's right, because everyone invests in good design.

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

NX : When there is time, a school will be designed for teachers and students to have a school that they will never regret.

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

NX : It's a school, because the school's architecture and interior design are not particularly brilliant in the experience of reading since childhood, and I hope to complete such a project in my lifetime.

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

NX : The secret of successful design is to read a large number of famous designers' works, analyze and learn the advantages of each other, and correct the shortcomings in the actual process of reflection. These are the secret of successful design.

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

NX : Zaha Hadid's design has always been famous for its bold modeling and is known as the "master of deconstruction" in the field of architecture. This halo mainly comes from her unique way of creation. Her works seem ordinary, but boldly use space and geometric structure, reflecting the complex characteristics of urban architecture. From her design works, she gives me a lot of inspiration, which makes me very useful on the road of design.

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

NX : To improve ourselves, we should start from the aesthetic. For a designer, excellent aesthetic is the necessary skill of a master. Secondly, we should understand the new materials to make the design work have different highlights. Finally, we must design the details of the project. We must seriously think about the details to make the project perfect.

DL: Who helped you to reach these heights, who was your biggest supporter?

NX : I have helped myself to reach the peak, and I am also my biggest supporter, because I have a heart to become a designer, with such a clear goal, I am constantly learning, constantly designing projects, constantly overcoming difficulties, and constantly accumulating experience, which makes me become the peak.

DL: What were the obstacles you faced before becoming a design master?

NX : Once faced with the obstacles of lack of design experience, later in the design of more projects, accumulated a lot of previous lack of experience.

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

NX : There are three ways to show your works: 1. Transform them into real objects through design works, so that more people can see them. 2. Let more people know by participating in the design competition. 3. Through online well-known design forum contributions to let more people to understand.

DL: What is your life motto as a designer?

NX : My motto: "create a perfect design with a playful mind"

DL: What kind of design software and equipment do you use in your work?

NX : In the design process, I will use Photoshop software, SketchUp software, AutoCAD software, etc
