LEGENDARY INTERVIEW

Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Marta Zawieja ("MZ") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

MZ : I grew up in the countryside. There is a lot of boredom and a lot of work in the countryside, but I had siblings and friends my age. I organized theatrical performances and other attractions (mainly so that the invited adults could pay for them). At home, my parents allowed me to implement my ideas. Once, I celebrated a mass for me and my siblings. We did not want to go to church, my mother allowed. Of course we went to take a donation from her for the mass. I even wanted to become a priest, but the priest said that I couldn't because I am a woman. We couldn't have a pool either. We were digging a big hole in the ground all day, but my dad came home from work and told us to bury it. My friend still hasn't forgiven him. Everything else was limited only by our imaginations. An art teacher sent my works to the competition. They got to the national finals. Another school could be related to mathematics, in which I felt most confident, and art. I chose art because I wanted to live in a big city. At the age of 15, I moved out of my home and settled in Lodz. I graduated from the State High School of Visual Arts - diploma in painting. Later, Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz - diploma in painting. I was more and more interested in what the images hide, what is their secret. I graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań - a diploma in the studio of visual semiotics. I stopped painting for a long time. I have had studios for several years, I am returning to expressing my emotions fully in painting. I am returning to my love of mathematics as a form of discovering secred geometry, in which I find not only mathematics but also spirituality and creation.
