Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Juntao Liu ("JL") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

JL : Self-study

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

JL : From a love of design

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

JL : Voluntary choice

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

JL : Besides graphic design, I hope to participate in the design of space, exhibition, products and other different fields

JL : Learning, life is a process of continuous learning, only continuous learning to become the hope of their own

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

JL : The Angle of intervention design

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

JL : Respect design, consumption design, give designers enough space to create. Less is more,Good Design is as Little Design as Possible

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

JL : Creating value for goods, design can make life better

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

JL : Interior space design, for self - design

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

JL : Design goes back to daily life and makes life better through design

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

JL : Less is more

JL : Dieter Rams、John Pawson、Poul Kjaerholm、Axel Vervoordt、Shin Matsunaga

DL: What are your favorite designs by other designers, why do you like them?

JL : Less is more minimalist, functional design, inspire the future of design

DL: What is your greatest design, which aspects of that design makes you think it is great?

JL : I always hope that my design has emotion and temperature, which can convey warmth and love to the society through design

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

JL : Keep learning and improving yourself

JL : Design is a problem solving process, from the problem, to solve the problem.

DL: Who helped you to reach these heights, who was your biggest supporter?

JL : The family is the biggest supporter of the design masters who give ideas inspiration

DL: What helped you to become a great designer?

JL : The unknown and love of design

DL: What were the obstacles you faced before becoming a design master?

JL : Not good enough. Keep learning

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

JL : Share your design with more people through information or platforms

JL : A self-managed b&b space design project, through which the multi-dimensional understanding of the design can be achieved

JL : BRAUN, function first, minimal design

DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?

JL : Design drives industrial development and social progress

JL : It varies from event to event, usually 2-3 weeks

JL : Winning an award is just a way to test yourself in a certain period of time

JL : My favorite colors are black, white and grey. My favorite season is spring. My favorite brands are BRAUN, B&O and Ejvind Kold Christensen

DL: Please tell us a little memoir, a funny thing you had experienced as a designer?

JL : Last year, I designed for my son and held a special exhibition for him as a gift for his 12th birthday

DL: What makes your day great as a designer, how do you motivate yourself?

JL : Recognition of the value of designers by industry and society. Be curious about the world

DL: What do you think about future; what do you see will happen in thousand years from now?

JL : The future will be better. The world in a thousand years is unknown
