Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Nayan Bagia ("NB") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

NB : I have Master degree in Computer science and Computer application. I have over 15+ years of experience in design, development, and entrepreneurship. My expertise spans web development, UX/UI design, and mobile platform development, including iOS and Android. I am also Google certified in UX designer.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

NB : I became a designer because I love solving problems and helping others. Design allows me to create solutions that make people's lives easier and more enjoyable.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

NB : I chose to become a designer. I have been good at paiting and drawing from school days. It was a natural path for me because of my passion for creativity and technology

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

NB : I mostly design web & mobile platforms and user interfaces. I wish to design more innovative digital solutions that can make a significant impact on users' experiences.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

NB : Young designers should focus on understanding user needs, continuously improve their skills, stay updated with industry trends, and be open to feedback. Passion and perseverance are key.

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

NB : A good designer creates functional and aesthetically pleasing designs. A great designer, however, goes beyond by understanding the deeper needs of users and creating intuitive, impactful solutions.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

NB : A really good design is one that seamlessly integrates form and function, meets user needs, and provides a delightful experience. I evaluate good design based on usability, aesthetics, and user feedback.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

NB : Good design improves user satisfaction, increases efficiency, and can lead to higher engagement and loyalty. Investing in good design can significantly enhance the overall value and success of a product or service.

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

NB : If I had the time, I would design educational platforms that make learning more accessible and engaging for people around the world.

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

NB : My dream project is to create a comprehensive, user-friendly platform that revolutionizes online experience, making it more interactive and personalized.

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

NB : My secret recipe for success in design is a deep understanding of user needs combined with a relentless pursuit of innovation and excellence. The secret ingredient is empathy.

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

NB : I draw inspiration from design legends like Dieter Rams and Jony Ive, who have significantly influenced modern design with their focus on simplicity and functionality.

DL: What are your favorite designs by other designers, why do you like them?

NB : I admire the clean and intuitive design of Apple's products. Their designs are a perfect blend of form and function, providing a seamless user experience.

DL: What is your greatest design, which aspects of that design makes you think it is great?

NB : My greatest design is the Cryptcon Template. Its user-friendly design, clear sections, and advanced customization options make it a valuable tool for creating NFT marketplaces.

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

NB : To become better designers, people should continuously learn new skills, seek feedback, and stay curious. I constantly update my knowledge and experiment with new design trends and techniques.

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

NB : If I hadn't become a designer, I might have pursued a career in software development or entrepreneurship, as I enjoy creating solutions and bringing ideas to life.

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

NB : Design is the process of creating solutions that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. For me, it’s about making people's lives easier and more enjoyable through thoughtful and innovative solutions.

DL: Who helped you to reach these heights, who was your biggest supporter?

NB : My biggest supporters have been my family and mentors who encouraged me to pursue my passion and provided guidance along the way.

DL: What helped you to become a great designer?

NB : Continuous learning, a passion for solving problems, and the support from my mentors and peers have helped me become a great designer.

DL: What were the obstacles you faced before becoming a design master?

NB : Before becoming a design master, I faced challenges like staying updated with rapidly changing technology and balancing creativity with functionality in my designs.

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

NB : Designers should present their work clearly, highlighting the problem, the process, and the solution. Visuals and user feedback are also crucial in showcasing the impact of their designs.

DL: What’s your next design project, what should we expect from you in future?

NB : My next design project involves creating more intuitive and interactive web platforms. Expect innovative solutions that enhance user experiences and address real-world problems.

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

NB : My ultimate goal as a designer is to create solutions that make a significant positive impact on users' lives and to inspire future generations of designers.

DL: What people expect from an esteemed designer such as yourself?

NB : People expect innovative, functional, and aesthetically pleasing designs from me. They also expect me to stay ahead of industry trends and continue delivering high-quality work.

DL: How does design help create a better society?

NB : Design helps create a better society by solving problems, improving efficiency, and enhancing the quality of life. Good design can lead to more accessible, inclusive, and sustainable solutions.

DL: What are you currently working on that you are especially excited about?

NB : I am currently working on an educational platform that aims to make learning more engaging and accessible. This project has the potential to significantly impact education globally.

DL: Which design projects gave you the most satisfaction, why?

NB : The Cryptcon project gave me the most satisfaction because it addressed a real need in the market and received positive feedback from users for its usability and customization options.

DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?

NB : I would like to see more emphasis on sustainability and inclusivity in design. The industry should focus on creating solutions that are not only innovative but also environmentally friendly and accessible to all.

DL: Where do you think the design field is headed next?

NB : The design field is heading towards more personalized and interactive experiences, with a strong focus on AI and machine learning to create smarter and more adaptive designs.

DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?

NB : The time to finalize a design project varies depending on its complexity. It can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months to complete a project, ensuring all user needs are met and the design is polished.

DL: When you have a new design project, where do you start?

NB : When starting a new design project, I begin with thorough research to understand the problem and user needs. Then, I move on to brainstorming and sketching initial ideas before developing prototypes.

DL: What is your life motto as a designer?

NB : My life motto as a designer is: "Design with empathy, innovate with purpose, and always strive for excellence"

DL: Do you think design sets the trends or trends set the designs?

NB : I believe design both sets trends and is influenced by them. Innovative designs can create new trends, while staying aware of current trends helps designers remain relevant and responsive to user preferences.

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

NB : Technology plays a crucial role in design, providing tools and platforms that enable the creation of innovative solutions. It allows for more efficient workflows and the ability to test and iterate designs quickly.

DL: What kind of design software and equipment do you use in your work?

NB : I use a variety of design software including Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Figma, and development tools like React Native. My equipment includes a high-performance iMAC and Macbook.

DL: What is the role of the color, materials and ambient in design?

NB : Color, materials, and ambient are essential in design as they influence the user experience and perception. They help create a specific mood, enhance usability, and contribute to the overall aesthetic appeal of the design.

DL: What do you wish people to ask about your design?

NB : I wish people would ask more about the thought process and user research behind my designs. Understanding the why behind design decisions is crucial for appreciating the final product.

DL: When you see a new great design or product what comes into your mind?

NB : When I see a new great design or product, I immediately think about the problem it solves and the creativity behind its creation. I appreciate the thought process and user research that went into making it intuitive and user-friendly.

DL: Who is your ideal design partner? Do you believe in co-design?

NB : My ideal design partner is someone who complements my skills and shares a passion for solving problems through design. Co-design can lead to more innovative and well-rounded solutions, as it brings together diverse perspectives and expertise.

DL: Which people you interacted had the most influence on your design?

NB : Mentors, colleagues, and fellow designers have had the most influence on my design. Their feedback, insights, and support have been invaluable in helping me grow and refine my skills.

DL: Which books you read had the most effect on your design?

NB : I am not book person so I don't read books but I explore various youtube videos or inspiration websites like awwwards, bestwebawards.com .

DL: How did you develop your skills as a master designer?

NB : I developed my skills through continuous learning, hands-on experience, and seeking feedback from users and peers. Staying updated with the latest design trends and tools also played a crucial role in my growth as a designer.

DL: Irrelative of time and space, who you would want to meet, talk and discuss with?

NB : I would love to meet and discuss with Dieter Rams, as his principles of good design have had a profound impact on the field. His focus on simplicity, functionality, and sustainability is something I deeply admire.

DL: How do you feel about all the awards and recognition you had, is it hard to be famous?

NB : Receiving awards and recognition is gratifying and validates my efforts. However, I don't focus on fame; my priority is to continue creating impactful designs. Fame can be a byproduct of dedication and hard work, but it’s not the end goal.

DL: What is your favorite color, place, food, season, thing and brand?

NB : - Favorite color: white, as it represents calmness and creativity. - Favorite place: Kailash situated in Himalays. The mountains, for their tranquility and inspiration. - Favorite food: Traditional Indian dishes, especially those from my Gujarat region. - Favorite season: Spring, for its sense of renewal and creativity. - Favorite thing: Driving alone in car, longdrives. - Favorite brand: Apple, for its innovative and user-centric design approach

DL: Please tell us a little memoir, a funny thing you had experienced as a designer?

NB : Once, I accidentally sent a draft design with placeholders like "Lorem Ipsum" to a client. They were very confused and thought it was some secret code. We had a good laugh about it once I explained, and it became an inside joke.

DL: What makes your day great as a designer, how do you motivate yourself?

NB : A great day as a designer is when I solve a challenging problem or receive positive feedback from users. I motivate myself by staying curious and reminding myself of the impact my designs can have on people's lives.

DL: When you were a little child, was it obvious that you would become a great designer?

NB : As a child, I was always curious and loved creating things, whether it was drawing or building with Legos. While it wasn't obvious I would become a designer, those early interests certainly paved the way for my career.

DL: What do you think about future; what do you see will happen in thousand years from now?

NB : In a thousand years, I envision a world where design and technology are seamlessly integrated into everyday life, making it more efficient, sustainable, and inclusive. Advances in AI and VR will likely revolutionize how we interact with our environments.

DL: Please tell us anything you wish your fans to know about you, your design and anything else?

NB : I want my fans to know that my journey as a designer has been driven by a passion for solving problems and making a positive impact. I believe in continuous learning and staying adaptable to new challenges. I encourage everyone to pursue their passions with dedication and curiosity.
