LEGENDARY INTERVIEW

Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Adel Badrawy ("AB") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

AB : I graduated from the AAST - Arab Academy for Science and Technology - architecture department in 2008. I worked in a design studio - ABIAT - right after graduation, then worked for RMC, a much larger multidisciplinary architecture firm. I gained much experience and exposure while working for these two incredible firms. I then started my studio RAW - Rawasem Architecture Workshop - in 2015. And now we're an architectural firm of 25 architects and engineers.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

AB : I believe architecture is the art of creating shelters for human beings, and I have always wanted to do something good for humanity.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

AB : I chose to be a designer.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

AB : I design residential, administration, spiritual and so many types of buildings. I would love to design more private residences.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

AB : Passion, passion, and passion! Also loving nature as much as getting inspired by it.

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

AB : Originality. And I believe originality comes from the surrounding nature, background, and culture.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

AB : A good story, and the creativity of solving all aspects of the story.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

AB : Imagine a universe that is poorly designed! This is how essential investing in good design is!

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

AB : Always turn to your roots, your surroundings, to nature. Let those be the motive and inspiration.

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

AB : Design is solving several problems each creatively.
