Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Anna Muratova ("AM") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

AM : While studying in master degree in applied mathematics and computer science in HSE one of the subjects was UI UX, which I really enjoyed. So after that I decided to learn more about design and in parallel with my studies I completed additional education in HSE in graphic design. Also, I listened several online design courses.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

AM : I enjoy creativity and the process of making something new that people will like.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

AM : It was fully my choice.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

AM : I design banners and promo sites. I would like to design more promo sites and landing pages, especially interactive websites with animation.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

AM : Just enjoy design overall and be passionate about it.

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

AM : Great designer can see the final look of design immediately, wherever good designer tries different variants.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

AM : Really good design has an unusual idea, satisfies the customer and is suitable for target audience.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

AM : Good design attracts people.

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

AM : Interactive website with animation.

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

AM : Constantly reading and learning new things about design, studying trends and news.

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

AM : Design is the creation of something new, that suits people's needs.

DL: What helped you to become a great designer?

AM : Constant learning and inspiration from other designers.

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

AM : I think designers should use mockups, so people would better understand how the final product will look like in real life.

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

AM : Making people happy with the final product that I made.

DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?

AM : Depending on the project it can take from several hours to several weeks.

DL: When you have a new design project, where do you start?

AM : My design process starts from structuring all the given information, then sketching different variations and selecting the best one. And after that making it visually attractive.

DL: Do you think design sets the trends or trends set the designs?

AM : I think design sets the trends and then those trends set new designs and so on.

DL: What kind of design software and equipment do you use in your work?

AM : Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe After Effects

DL: When you see a new great design or product what comes into your mind?

AM : That everything fits together perfectly.

DL: Who is your ideal design partner? Do you believe in co-design?

AM : Ideal partner has similar design vision as me.

DL: How did you develop your skills as a master designer?

AM : Constantly learning new things about design and from personal experience.

DL: What is your favorite color, place, food, season, thing and brand?

AM : My favorite color is pink, the place is sea shore, food is pizza, season is spring, brand is Ikea

DL: When you were a little child, was it obvious that you would become a great designer?

AM : As a child I always enjoyed creating something new and I later on in school I made websites as a hobby. However, I became designer relatively recently.
