LEGENDARY INTERVIEW

Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Ragù Communication ("RC") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

RC : We are Ragù Communication, and our team includes specialised professionals from different backgrounds and with different inspirations.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

RC : We design different creative products; we’re very flexible and we adapt to the customer’s needs, with the aim of enhancing brand identity.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

RC : . They should certainly experiment but, at the same time, look around, let themselves be inspired by different contexts and styles. Always be open to comparison and sharing.

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

RC : Knowing how to give added value to everything that he or she produces, through the right mix of professionalism, originality and good taste.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

RC : From our point of view, a good design must manage, at the same time, to express the message for which it was conceived, to enhance the customer’s identity and to recount their particular way of viewing the world.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

RC : A good design enriches our work and makes it original. It’s a powerful and impactful way to efficiently transmit a concept, a message or a broader piece of storytelling.

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

RC : Ragù Communication’s secret ingredient is our dynamic and international team that works at a very high level of quality and care for customers’ needs.

DL: What are you currently working on that you are especially excited about?

RC : At present we are involved in a stimulating project with Lega Serie A, dealing with its rebranding and the evolution of a new, more modern and international visual language. Another piece of work that we’re very proud of is the new Activity Report 2019 for Europ Assistance: it’s a marvel of design with a style studied down to the smallest detail, with which we are bringing out the very essence of the brand.

DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?

RC : The time necessary to propose a complete, original and high-quality project, always respecting the requirements and timeframes of our customer, often responding in real time to every possible request.

DL: When you have a new design project, where do you start?

RC : Every one of our creative projects comes out of careful analysis and is supported by a solid wider communication strategy.

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

RC : Technology is a powerful means that we use to build experiential communication, in any case all revolving around human creativity.

DL: What kind of design software and equipment do you use in your work?

RC : We use the basic tools for every designer: Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop. We believe that extraordinary projects can be generated even with the simplest tools if you have sensitivity, a spirit of research, determination and passion for your work.

DL: What is the role of the color, materials and ambient in design?

RC : Every aspect of the design has a strategic role which should not be underestimated. Choosing a certain colour or material can be fundamental for enhancing a project.

DL: Who is your ideal design partner? Do you believe in co-design?

RC : Certainly. Our work has always been the result of cooperative and synergic design, and this represents one of our real points of strength

DL: Please tell us a little memoir, a funny thing you had experienced as a designer?

RC : We began as a small creative studio with a very small team and, on more than one occasion, we spent whole nights working together until dawn on projects which subsequently gave us great satisfaction and allowed us to become what we are today.

DL: What makes your day great as a designer, how do you motivate yourself?

RC : Over the day we constantly compare ideas and we develop contents and design synergistically, combining the creativity and skills of each one of us, motivating and inspiring each other.

DL: Please tell us anything you wish your fans to know about you, your design and anything else?

RC : We would like to describe ourselves: Ragù Communication is a creative and strategic communication agency that operates in global contexts but works like a small, independent boutique; we personally oversee every step with sartorial care, from the creative idea to the final product, and we look after all our clients with the passion that we are renowned for.
