Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Miko Lim ("ML") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

ML : I love drawing when I was a kid. I participated in all kinds of drawing and coloring contest as many as I could and I did well in those contest. That's where I had my drawing and coloring tools. After high school, I furthered my study into Mass Communication so that I can pursue my career as a magazine or newspaper layout artist. I started to focus mainly on artwork design after receiving recognition from the company.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

ML : The beauty of art.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

ML : I wish to be a business women, but i forced to become a graphic designer.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

ML : Visual Identity with story or meaningful.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

ML : Accept criticize with an open heart, passionate, and never stop learning.

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

ML : Good designer making a design what she like, great designer create a design what client need.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

ML : Different people has different view, but the design has attracted most of people.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

ML : Fine feathers make fine birds, this is the value of good design.

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

ML : i will design art vector for prepare my client poster every week when i had extra time.

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

ML : Chain store

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

ML : look more, learn more and think out of the box.

DL: What is your greatest design, which aspects of that design makes you think it is great?

ML : Able to attract people's attention.

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

ML : Think out of the box.

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

ML : Business woman.

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

ML : To transform an ordinary to unordinary.

DL: Who helped you to reach these heights, who was your biggest supporter?

ML : My mother because she felt very proud to have a designer daughter like me.

DL: What helped you to become a great designer?

ML : There are many great designers in the world and this will be my motivation to be better.

DL: What were the obstacles you faced before becoming a design master?

ML : Lack of acknowledgment from the people where I came from.

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

ML : Find a balance between customer's idea and self experience.

DL: What’s your next design project, what should we expect from you in future?

ML : Amethyst gem handmade soap. Create more wonderful products with breakthrough sales.

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

ML : Own a work that has been passed down through the ages.

DL: What people expect from an esteemed designer such as yourself?

ML : The artwork outcome exceeds expectation.

DL: How does design help create a better society?

ML : Brings happiness

DL: What are you currently working on that you are especially excited about?

ML : The final outcome.

DL: Which design projects gave you the most satisfaction, why?

ML : SK Joaillerie corporate identity because the outcome exceeds my expectation as well as my client.

DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?

ML : More dedicated and creative newcomers continue to emerge.

DL: Where do you think the design field is headed next?

ML : Own brand.

DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?

ML : Depends on artwork complexity.

DL: When you have a new design project, where do you start?

ML : Brainstorming

DL: What is your life motto as a designer?

ML : Think out of the box.

DL: Do you think design sets the trends or trends set the designs?

ML : Design sets the trends.

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

ML : Able to undo.

DL: What kind of design software and equipment do you use in your work?

ML : Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

DL: What is the role of the color, materials and ambient in design?

ML : The success or failure of a work.

DL: What do you wish people to ask about your design?

ML : How and where do you get this inspiration.

DL: When you see a new great design or product what comes into your mind?

ML : Wow! The designer's mindset is too powerful.

DL: Who is your ideal design partner? Do you believe in co-design?

ML : I believe but is not easy to find such co-designer.

DL: Which people you interacted had the most influence on your design?

ML : Imaginative

DL: Which books you read had the most effect on your design?

ML : I think it should be mighty google.

DL: How did you develop your skills as a master designer?

ML : Never to stop learning.

DL: Irrelative of time and space, who you would want to meet, talk and discuss with?

ML : My soulmate.

DL: How do you feel about all the awards and recognition you had, is it hard to be famous?

ML : Awards help to enhance the recognition of designers. The popularity and professionalism of a designer will greatly enhance the results customers want.

DL: What is your favorite color, place, food, season, thing and brand?

ML : Color; white and black Place; a place with love Food; chocolate Season; autumn

DL: Please tell us a little memoir, a funny thing you had experienced as a designer?

ML : When everyone is very hungry and placing their food order, you are busy analyzing their menu design.

DL: What makes your day great as a designer, how do you motivate yourself?

ML : Never stop learning.

DL: When you were a little child, was it obvious that you would become a great designer?

DL: What do you think about future; what do you see will happen in thousand years from now?

ML : The earth is no longer the earth that I used to know.
