LEGENDARY INTERVIEW

Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Amir Cherni ("AC") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

AC : I am an interior designer and Vray licensed trainer from Tunis, Tunisia. I started my design journey in Canada Where I followed an interior design program and after graduation I came back to Tunisia to follow another interior design course

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

AC : Due to my poor drawing skills, I was a lot more interested by 3D visualization which then became my main concept creation tool. Reaching a new level in photorealistic rendering is my main motivation when I design interiors , this lead me to create sophisticated moods and designs

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

AC : In 2001, I went to Canada where I accidentally landed in the interior design field. I was enrolled to study in an automotive mechanics program but when I arrived I discovered that following a non-confirmation I had lost my place in that program so I chose to follow an interior design class which was the last available course. However, by graduation I was seduced by the specialty

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

AC : Motivation , Hard Work and never stop learning

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

AC : A great designer is a "good designer" with an extra small amount of craziness, and irrationality wich leads him to designs innovative concepts.

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

AC : An Automotive designer who is specialized in the creation of Car's body Kits ( Tuning )

DL: Who helped you to reach these heights, who was your biggest supporter?

AC : Thanks to my Both mothers who were an unconditional support for me in the hardest transitions in my professional life My biological Mother Jamila and My Spiritual mother Francine.

DL: What helped you to become a great designer?

AC : Dedication, hard work and auto-competition. Each new design must be better than his predecessor.

DL: When you have a new design project, where do you start?

AC : I always strat by modeling the interior space and then take a virtual tour inside it using VR technologie it help me to FEEL the space and to decide about the main attraction inside it on which I will focus during the designing process

DL: What is your life motto as a designer?

AC : I think emptiness is the real luxury, and if you manage to create an atmosphere based on empty spaces, you can create anything.

DL: Do you think design sets the trends or trends set the designs?

AC : If you are a Good designer you create design that fit in actual trend but If you are a great designer you create the trend

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

AC : A crucial Role .. As I have a really bad skills in drawing 100% of my workflow is digital from 2D cad drawing to 3D visualisation and virtual Tour

DL: What kind of design software and equipment do you use in your work?

AC : 3D dedicated softwares like 3ds max installed in big Workstation which can handle a big amount of 3d data (polygones , maps ...)

DL: When you see a new great design or product what comes into your mind?

AC : I must make something better

DL: What is your favorite color, place, food, season, thing and brand?

AC : I'm a black addicted , i love matte Black .I couldn't resist to a matte black object that have red accent
