XL : I graduated from Fashion Institute of Technology jewelry design major. But I actually started my jewelry career in 2011. I was selling handmade jewelry online, basically some cold connection and wired jewelry, all handmade by me. And then I realized I wanted to become a jewelry professional so I stopped the business for a while and went to New York for school.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

XL : I've always wanted to do something more creative, and a designer is the right fit.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

XL : I chose to start my jewelry business and chose to go to school all because I wanted to be a jewelry designer.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

XL : I design jewelry. But in the future if I have a chance, I want to try toy design.

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

XL : A good designer is serving for the clients or maybe her or himself. A great designer will have tribute to the world or the society. Like Leon Ming Pei, he was a great designer.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

XL : A really good design to me would be something I enjoy wearing and also loved by the clients.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

XL : I think the greatest one always comes next.

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

XL : Keep learning and keep practicing my skills.

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

XL : I've always wanted to be a writer when I was a teenager. It is also a job that creates things. Writers create stories and I create jewelry.
