Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer CHIH-YUAN,HUNG ("CHIH-YUAN,HUNG") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

CHIH-YUAN,HUNG : I was born in an agricultural city in Taiwan, Changhua. Running and playing in the farmland is the daily memory I am used to. Drawing is the most important element in my own soul. In the professional training of architectural design, my tutor at the university gave me a very profound influence.Being accumulating day by day, becoming an architect is the only way I know in the world.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

CHIH-YUAN,HUNG : The integration of all possibilities in materials, the owner's life experience, budget, and craftsmanship into a beauty experience is the most important attraction for me.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

CHIH-YUAN,HUNG : no.it just happen

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

CHIH-YUAN,HUNG : Museum buildings or new forms of architecture and space about education are areas of interest to us next.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

CHIH-YUAN,HUNG : have faith

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

CHIH-YUAN,HUNG : Constant practicing

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

CHIH-YUAN,HUNG : A good design is judged by the user and not by the designer. all you can do is give your best shot.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

CHIH-YUAN,HUNG : Design always finds good or bad in the first moment of people's use, and finds its value in time. So we love the design that will stand the test of time and expect us to create one ourselves.

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

CHIH-YUAN,HUNG : I hope to help Taiwan's most culturally memorable craftsmanship design a new interpretation method.

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

CHIH-YUAN,HUNG : you'll know when i see it

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

CHIH-YUAN,HUNG : Constant practicing

DL: What are your favorite designs by other designers, why do you like them?

CHIH-YUAN,HUNG : What I care about is always a space that clearly conveys an intention, a new understanding of the relationship between people and space.

DL: What is your greatest design, which aspects of that design makes you think it is great?

CHIH-YUAN,HUNG : I haven't seen it.do you?

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

CHIH-YUAN,HUNG : Constant practicing

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

CHIH-YUAN,HUNG : I really don't know

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

CHIH-YUAN,HUNG : An understanding of lifestyle

DL: What were the obstacles you faced before becoming a design master?

CHIH-YUAN,HUNG : don't have enough time

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

CHIH-YUAN,HUNG : Use the appropriate method at the appropriate time

DL: What’s your next design project, what should we expect from you in future?

CHIH-YUAN,HUNG : The team recently had a very interesting hotel case in the desert of China, we are looking forward to it.

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

CHIH-YUAN,HUNG : Make the relationship between the user and space become tight and comfortable again, and find the most different expressions in the space.

DL: How does design help create a better society?

CHIH-YUAN,HUNG : The restoration of spatial relationships helps people understand and understand each other.

DL: What are you currently working on that you are especially excited about?

CHIH-YUAN,HUNG : The team recently had a very interesting hotel case in the desert of China, we are looking forward to it.

DL: Which design projects gave you the most satisfaction, why?

CHIH-YUAN,HUNG : During the work process, cooperate with the owner's construction unit and achieve the expected design effect.

DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?

CHIH-YUAN,HUNG : More benign competition

DL: Where do you think the design field is headed next?

CHIH-YUAN,HUNG : Industries that are cross-cutting but have the same feature, such as aircraft and ships.

DL: What is your life motto as a designer?

CHIH-YUAN,HUNG : just do it

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

CHIH-YUAN,HUNG : there is none
