Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Odair José Ferro ("OJF") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

OJF : I am a shoemaker that become a Techincial footwear designer but I never imagine that I will be a designer in my life.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

OJF : The motivates me is the challenge in general I Become designer because I start to work in development process and when I saw I become designer

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

OJF : I not choose just happen

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

OJF : I design safety foowear I would wish to design sneakers in the future

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

OJF : Work hard everyday and never give up

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

OJF : persevere never give up

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

OJF : Your work must be sell all time every where no matter you do but your work Always will be there

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

OJF : The good design gain value for your brand and your brand will never lost the value.

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

OJF : I would design sneaker for CrossFit Company

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

OJF : This is secret for new Sneaker

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

OJF : Perseverate and trust in God

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

OJF : I don´t no one

DL: What are your favorite designs by other designers, why do you like them?

OJF : I like some car designs but I don´t know the designers name.

DL: What is your greatest design, which aspects of that design makes you think it is great?

OJF : The Premier Plus because I think have so many information in a simple visual an so much technology and comfort inside the boot.

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

OJF : Work Hard, study Always

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

OJF : Archaeologist

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

OJF : IS THE MAIN THING YOU HAVE IN YOUR HEAD AND YOU CAN CHANGE THE WORLD IF WOULD KNOW HOW TO USE THIS.

DL: Who helped you to reach these heights, who was your biggest supporter?

OJF : God, my Wife and my Family

OJF : Perseverate never give up

OJF : Show to others what I could do

OJF : Always trusthfuly

OJF : Be recognized in the world as one of the best technical designer in footwear in all areas

OJF : Expect the best and the safety of a job well done

DL: How does design help create a better society?

OJF : Can bring work options to people who have talent but sometimes do not have opportunities

DL: What are you currently working on that you are especially excited about?

OJF : I worked in safety footwear design and I like so much this project

DL: Which design projects gave you the most satisfaction, why?

OJF : The Premier Plus because I could win A Design Award competition

DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?

OJF : The Sneakers could be change for more comfort and really help

DL: Where do you think the design field is headed next?

OJF : In the Sports wear

DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?

OJF : Depends on each project around six month or more

DL: When you have a new design project, where do you start?

OJF : I start doing a brienf with the objectives of the project

DL: What is your life motto as a designer?

OJF : Every day we have to learn something different because if you did not learn anything at the end of the day it's because you did not build anything new

DL: Do you think design sets the trends or trends set the designs?

OJF : The design sets the trends

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

OJF : The role of technology is helo us in all process and bring something help the users.

DL: What kind of design software and equipment do you use in your work?

OJF : Shoemaster Power CadCam

DL: What is the role of the color, materials and ambient in design?

OJF : This Rule of combination for everything that you think

DL: What do you wish people to ask about your design?

OJF : I wish the people asked about how can get this combination

DL: When you see a new great design or product what comes into your mind?

OJF : How to develed this what technology have this product

DL: Who is your ideal design partner? Do you believe in co-design?

OJF : Yes I believe my ideal design partner could be a proficiency in technology

DL: Which people you interacted had the most influence on your design?

OJF : All public and the marketing team

DL: Which books you read had the most effect on your design?

OJF : Not usually read books some magazine sometimes

DL: How did you develop your skills as a master designer?

OJF : I developed my skills worked in productive process being shoemaker

DL: Irrelative of time and space, who you would want to meet, talk and discuss with?

OJF : People that wants be better than now and wants do the difference

DL: How do you feel about all the awards and recognition you had, is it hard to be famous?

OJF : I feel Honor but is not hard I hope honor this award

DL: What is your favorite color, place, food, season, thing and brand?

OJF : White, London, Barbecure, Winter, Guitar and Fender

DL: Please tell us a little memoir, a funny thing you had experienced as a designer?

OJF : I don´t remember now

DL: What makes your day great as a designer, how do you motivate yourself?

OJF : know that I can be better each day

DL: When you were a little child, was it obvious that you would become a great designer?

OJF : never tought about this

DL: What do you think about future; what do you see will happen in thousand years from now?

OJF : Just God can know

OJF : I have hobby play guitar I like Red Hot Chili Peppers and blues music
