Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Reed Tonearms.lt, UAB ("RTU") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

RTU : Two of our team members have artistic education and one has technical education.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

RTU : Natural desire to create objects and our ideas realization.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

RTU : We chose to become designers.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

RTU : We design highest quality audio equipment and we are satisfied working in this field and we would like to design a lot of objects of this kind of equipment.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

RTU : Work on your skills as a designer and study your environment and nature which inspires to create.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

RTU : Really good design is when there is no space for criticism.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

RTU : Good design can raise up a value of an object with its quality and visual comfort. That is why everyone should invest in good design.

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

RTU : Our secret ingredient is emotions in our designs which excites our potential clients.

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

RTU : Leonardo da Vinci.

DL: What is your greatest design, which aspects of that design makes you think it is great?

RTU : Our greatest design is a turntable 'Muse 3C'. Recognition and winning other worldwide design contests like 'IF Design Award' and 'Red Dot Design Award' makes us think that this design is great.

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

RTU : People can improve themselves to be better designers with everyday work in that direction. That is what we do. The constant creative process is a guarantee of success.

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

RTU : Design is a challenge to create better than we had created yesterday.

DL: What helped you to become a great designer?

RTU : Education, everyday work and a little bit of talent.

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

RTU : To provide satisfaction with our designs.

DL: What people expect from an esteemed designer such as yourself?

RTU : They expect better design than we created already.

DL: Which design projects gave you the most satisfaction, why?

RTU : The most satisfaction gave us those works which were marked as best designs in worldwide design awards. It means that we are at the right way and our designs are really good.

DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?

RTU : Sometimes good design objects are very expensive for their expensive materials and technologies that are used. We would like that best design object would be more affordable for customers with lower income.

DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?

RTU : It depends on complexity of a design project.

DL: When you have a new design project, where do you start?

RTU : We start at the search of an idea of design.

DL: What is your life motto as a designer?

RTU : To surprise with unexpected solutions.

DL: What is the role of technology when you design?

RTU : The role of technology is one of the most important aspects in our products. To achieve best quality of product it is necessary to use best materials and processing of them.

DL: What kind of design software and equipment do you use in your work?

RTU : The main software that we use is Solid Works.

DL: What is the role of the color, materials and ambient in design?

RTU : Choosing right colors and best materials is very important role which have a huge impact to designs.

DL: Who is your ideal design partner? Do you believe in co-design?

RTU : We think that our design team members are ideal partners. We believe in co-design, because it is advantage in creating complexed design objects.

DL: How did you develop your skills as a master designer?

RTU : We master our skills with everyday work in our design field.

DL: Irrelative of time and space, who you would want to meet, talk and discuss with?

RTU : With Leonardo da Vinci and Japanese art masters of 16 – 19 century.

DL: How do you feel about all the awards and recognition you had, is it hard to be famous?

RTU : Every award and recognition adds additional responsibility to create better designs.
