LEGENDARY INTERVIEW

Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Takuji Kamio ("TK") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

TK : Educated in the University of Kansas, School of Architecture. Worked for several firms for 4 years and started my own carriers.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

TK : To meet people. To make them happy.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

TK : I have design education background, but actually I tried to quit my design carriers after school graduation. But, somehow I'm still in the design field and work as a designer.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

TK : I would like to design something which can give people opportunities to share their time, space and emotions with each other including me.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

TK : What you become is not important. What you do is more important.

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

TK : As long as they are good, that means they are already ready to be great in the future. Not much differences between them.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

TK : Balance of matters, such as colors, shapes, textures, sociality, humanity, and so on.

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

TK : Design is social property. Also design is investigation to make better society. That's why everyone put their efforts on making new designs.

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

TK : Something for my family.

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

TK : resort hotels in wild nature

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

TK : Respect people and appreciate for all what happen to you. Open your eyes and be hungry.

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

TK : Antonio Gaudi
