LEGENDARY INTERVIEW

Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Wonjoon Cha ("WC") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

WC : I have graduated from Parsons the new school for design for bachelor degree in New York and Istituto Marangoni Paris for master's degree in France.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

WC : I became a designer to show the world how I express my feeling. My big dream and passion always motivates me and also I get motivated by looking at other great designers.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

WC : I chose to become a designer

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

WC : a design that shows my own fantasy. I would like to design that makes everyone feel happy and enchanted.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

WC : They have to believe themselves even though things feel like not working well.

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

WC : a good designer is the one who catches the trend fast and a great designer is the one who creates trend.

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

WC : My dream project would be to collaborate with Disney.

DL: Who are some other design masters and legends you get inspired from?

WC : John Galliano, Christian Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Lanvin.... on and on.

DL: What are your favorite designs by other designers, why do you like them?

WC : I like Thom Browne because he always speaks about he's identity.

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

WC : Hair Dresser?

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

WC : Design is the tool to express feeling.

DL: Who helped you to reach these heights, who was your biggest supporter?

WC : My family.

DL: What’s your next design project, what should we expect from you in future?

WC : I am creating my own brand inspired by my collection from here and I am keep continuing with new collections.

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

WC : to be a person to bring the hope and inspiration to next generation.

DL: What are you currently working on that you are especially excited about?

WC : My next collection.

DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?

WC : it depends but usually in 3 months.

DL: When you have a new design project, where do you start?

WC : I watch movie.

DL: Do you think design sets the trends or trends set the designs?

WC : I think it is in both ways.

DL: What kind of design software and equipment do you use in your work?

WC : Photoshop

DL: How did you develop your skills as a master designer?

WC : Keep continuing with practice and focus on basics.

DL: Irrelative of time and space, who you would want to meet, talk and discuss with?

WC : Christian Dior.

DL: When you were a little child, was it obvious that you would become a great designer?

WC : It was very obvious. I liked pink color as a boy and I liked playing with barbie dolls instead of robots.
