Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer PROJEKT PRODUKT ("PP") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

PP : 6 years ago, I was an optician. I used to work as an optician for about 10 years. So, I had a lot of chances of seeing wonderful eyewear. At that time, I was thinking of designing this sort of excellent eyewear. I wanted to have frames which are more wearable and fashionable in Korea. And then I became a designer at PROJEKT PRODUKT.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

PP : When I look at cool stuff, I get motivation to design something amazing.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

PP : I decided to become a designer myself

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

PP : Sunglasses and optical frames

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

PP : Positive thinking and belief in me

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

PP : They know what they pursue exactly.

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

PP : good-wearable, cool design with own identity

DL: What is the value of good design? Why should everyone invest in good design?

PP : People are likely to be satisfied with good design.

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

PP : Only eyewear.

DL: What is the dream project you haven’t yet had time to realize?

PP : Collaboration with cool designers.

DL: What is your secret recipe of success in design, what is your secret ingredient?

PP : Discussion with co-workers and think over and over.

DL: What is your greatest design, which aspects of that design makes you think it is great?

PP : My favorite frames are‘MC-10' because it's the frames showing our own identity and mood.

DL: How could people improve themselves to be better designers, what did you do?

PP : Experience a lot of different things and think what the best is.

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

PP : I have no idea.

DL: How do you define design, what is design for you?

PP : It's the large part of my life.

DL: Who helped you to reach these heights, who was your biggest supporter?

PP : Co-workers who cheer me up all the times.

DL: What helped you to become a great designer?

PP : When I have a good result, it gives me driving force.

DL: What were the obstacles you faced before becoming a design master?

PP : Knowledge of designing

DL: How do you think designers should present their work?

PP : Good work.

DL: What’s your next design project, what should we expect from you in future?

PP : Create cool frames and good marketing material.

DL: What’s your ultimate goal as a designer?

PP : To let people know the excellence of Korean eyewear

DL: What people expect from an esteemed designer such as yourself?

PP : differentiated design with others.

DL: What are you currently working on that you are especially excited about?

PP : Good selling at high-end shop.

DL: Which design projects gave you the most satisfaction, why?

PP : The latest collection as many people love this one!

DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?

PP : It will be more creative.

DL: How long does it take you to finalize a design project?

PP : It depends on my condition.

DL: What is the role of the color, materials and ambient in design?

PP : Tint color(colorful)

DL: When you see a new great design or product what comes into your mind?

PP : more study and design for better one.

DL: Who is your ideal design partner? Do you believe in co-design?

PP : Yes, I'm very positive on the collaboration with others.

DL: When you were a little child, was it obvious that you would become a great designer?

PP : No, I liked a lot of things at the same time.

DL: What do you think about future; what do you see will happen in thousand years from now?

PP : More technology will be used.
