LEGENDARY INTERVIEW

Design Legends ("DL") had the distinct honour to interview legendary designer Andrea Sosinski ("AS") for their original perspective and innovative approach to design as well as their creative lifestyle, we are very pleased to share our interview with our distinguished readers.

DL: Could you please tell us a bit about your design background and education?

AS : I studied ceramics at the renowned university of art and design Burg Giebichenstein in Halle (Saale) in Germany from 2000 till 2006. 2003 I did a semester abroad in Stoke-on-Trend in England at Staffordshire University in Ceramic Class. 2006 I finished my studies with my diploma and founded my company Nimtschke Design.

DL: What motivates you to design in general, why did you become a designer?

AS : Since I can remember I love to draw and create.

DL: Did you choose to become a designer, or you were forced to become one?

AS : I did choose to become a designer.

DL: What do you design, what type of designs do you wish to design more of?

AS : Mostly I do corporate design for companies and start ups. Product design is my second feet but since quite a while only a little toe. I wish to have more time to do more products again. Nevertheless I love graphic design and what I do for living.

DL: What should young designers do to become a design legend like you?

AS : I don't feel like a design legend. I just do what I love. That's all.

DL: What distinguishes between a good designer and a great designer?

AS : That's a difficult question. Good design can be also great...

DL: What makes a good design a really good design, how do you evaluate good design?

AS : It is always a combination of shape, function, material and everthing behind. It is always good to go a step further and show a deep thought that make sense for society and environment.

DL: What would you design and who would you design for if you had the time?

AS : Once I would like to design a car. I love the old shapes and can't understand the nowadays company policy of producing millions of cars that look all the same. I would combine the inspiration of old shapes with modern technology and create a car that is good for environment, society and that is in 50 years still up to date.

DL: If you hadn’t become a designer, what would you have done?

AS : Maybe musician. I love to sing and making music as well.

DL: What would you like to see changed in design industry in the coming years?

AS : I think the speed of creating new products is not good at all. So many products are produced each year, so many senseless items as well. Just look at the large graveyards of new cars that no one will ever drive. That's just a waste of resources. We all should be aware of what we do here. Better creating less and let only the great, usefull or necessary things bring to life.

DL: When you were a little child, was it obvious that you would become a great designer?

AS : It was obvious that I will do a creative job. That could have been also playing music and writing and singing songs.
